Do NOT Tent at this campground
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/30/07
I checked the location of this campground out on the map and saw that it was close to I-95/495. When we checked in, I asked at the desk if the site they had given us was close to the highway and the response was "there's a highway out there?" Well, Yes, there is a highway out there and the tent sites are basically right on top of it. The tent sites are covered in wood chips which ARE flammable, and you could see AND HEAR the highway (which has tractor trailers running on it 24 x 7) from our site and from just about everywhere else in the park.
One night, someone had dropped a pair of socks on the road out to the tent sites, two days later, the socks were still there. Other campgrounds I've been to were patrolled frequently and that type of litter would have been removed immediately. There was some remnants of what looked like a napkin drifting around on the bottom of the pool. Sheets of toilet paper laid on the bathroom floors for days.
On the good side, the Metrobus picks you up at the front gate and takes you to the Metrorail station in College Park where you can take the Green line to downtown DC. There is also a grocery store just a short drive down Cherry Hill Road as well as a few restaurants, including IHOP, and gas stations in the same vicinity.
This would be a really good park if it wasn't right on the highway and if they'd clean up a little more often.
