The original 20 cabins here were built in the 1880s, at which time the area served gold miners. This inn was rescued by its current owners, who understood the historical significance of the buildings and the beauty of the area. Today, each room has a view of Mono Lake, and each has been totally refurbished and decorated to reflect its origins. There is a good restaurant and wonderful gift shop, which was imported from Bodie, a nearby ghost town. This place is not only charming, it is a history buff's delight.

Room with a View
By Margaret, 06/18/09
Clean, older lodge. Cherish and Art the managers were extremely friendly and helpful. Typical lodge style rooms - no tv, telephone, hair dryer. Some rooms do not have shower, bath tub with hand wand only. Read rental policy carefully, especially "insurance" agreement. Traffic noise when trying to sleep.

Had to check ourselves in!
By A, 10/04/08
The grounds are very cute...the restaurant and its staff is wonderful...but we had to check ourselves in and out of the lodge. We also had to check in other couples that couldn't speak English. We were literally behind the front desk assigning rooms and keys, etc. They really lack service. I have no idea how they stay in business. The room itself was clean, cute and simply decorated in a country/mountain decor. It was charming.

Real California Vacation!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 02/03/06
We discovered the heart of California! We experienced California's rich history by staying at Tigoa Lodge. Tioga Lodge was fantastic and the area attractions were awesome. Our family will go again! RB

Wonderful Trip Back in Time!
By Gail, 07/14/05
We stayed at the Tioga Lodge on a recent trip to Yosemite. What a wonderful experience! The Lodge has been lovingly restored by an historian into what it might have been in the 1800's when it was built. Hardwood floors in the bathroom, and branch-wood hand-crafted furniture were a treat. Best of all, was the private veranda with wooden lounge-chairs overlooking Mono Lake. We enjoyed the room and the people so much we decided to have dinner here as well. One of our better decisions. We had huge delicious shrimp poached in a sauce made from Basque chorizo and garlic. I have never had shrimp so good - even on the beach in Mexico! I can hardly wait to go back! Gail
