Toms cove is seemed to be a great hot spot in VA. We decided to try for ourselves. Lets just start off with if your fine with camping parking lot style, this is your place. The security guards are real pains, And change rules everyday. It rains almost everyday and the bugs are terrible. So much for spending half your camping trip in your camper/tent. The only ood thing about Toms Cove is the pony swim, THATS IT! If youve never tried Fish Creek Ponds in the adirondacks your really missing out on what camping is. Our family 50+ people camping experiance turned out to be horrible, We hated it here! thumbs down.
I really have no dislikes, we like everything about the campground, the security, the warm, clean bath houses, the fishing, the light house view from across the water at sunset. My partner and I bought alot there , this will be our third season. When I say there's no place like home, I mean we now look at our camping time as going to our HOME! We love it, People complain about the drainage and the bugs, I say they are full of it, depending on the time people visit, doesn't every campground have laying water and some bugs? During the summer months the park staff go through the grounds and spray, the staff people there are the most friendly people you can find, they treat you like good family, we get alot of different people in there, alot of people from big cities, not use to the camping enviorments, of course the woods have flying bugs, bring your spray, enjoy your self a little! Anything anf everything is all what you make of it, we love it, have done the trailer pulling and the tent thing in our early yrs. Been there done thatm Toms Cove is and was the best choice! Even being gay, the camping regular people or the staff never treat us badly! Gay and Lesbian friendly!!!
I actually havent been there in many years. But my family and I went every year from the time I was 2 until i was 20. I miss it so much and want to show my children the beauty and fun of this camp ground. LOVE IT!
We've been going to Toms Cove for the past 7 years. We have never had any problems whatsoever. The check in is a little outdated, but that adds to the "feel" of the campground. It is so family-oriented. All the other campers are always friendly and its nice to meet other families. You have a good view of the Assateague Lighthouse and can see the ponies from the piers. We love Chincoteague so much that we just bought our own lot right around the corner from Tom's Cove. We are looking forward to still visiting their country store. Their bathhouses are always clean and I love that they come pick up your trash each morning. All in all, your family will have a great camping experience there!
My husband and I bought a site here about 5 years ago - so we see the ins and outs of everything. I will agree with others that this place is a step back in time - no credit card check in, reservations kept in a shoe box, etc.... Well, welcome to Chincoteague!
This campground has a lot to offer the whole family - horses, fishing, swimming, and boating. Isn't that what camping is about? We all know the Coleman commercial.
The bath houses are clean. There are on site laundry facilities and a store to get all the things that may have been forgotten. There is also security at the grounds - all campers are given a sticker to allow them in. Also the security patrols the grounds 24-7. They do not tolerate loud noise and late parties or you will be escorted out by Chincoteague's finest!
The only downfall that I've noticed is the availability of propane (hit or miss if the store has it) and the drainage. Chincoteague is below sea level so when we get a good rain - it stays for a while.
All in all, a great place to bring the family and get re-connected.
I've had the best times at this camp grounds,I've been lots of places but I keep on coming back to Tom's Cove. I will be back to camp there again and again. The Fishing is great, Beach is clean.Pony Swim is Alsome thing to watch.Great place for the kids also.
