TERRIBLE! AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!!!
By Ann, 08/02/08
All I need to say is BED BUGS and that should be enough. I don't mind roughing it to save a few dollars but basic hygiene is not a lot to ask. Also hot water should be a given. Top it off with a decidedly unfriendly, unhelpful staff and it would make you question why you came to San Francisco - one of the most beautiful and exciting cities in the world. No stars, no rating! That star is only there because the computer required it. If anything I want my money and the time back that Elements ate into my stay in San Francisco. AVOID!!!

Horrible experience
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 05/31/07
I had a horrible experience. The room I was initially given was dirty; there had been smoking in the room which gave it a stale smoking odor that wouldn't go away even with open windows; there were open alcohol containers in the bathroom; overall very messy. After I complained and asked for another room, the staff said there were no other rooms available. I went back and I tried to sleep but the leftover smoking odor and the loud street noises (there is a bar next door and the crowd spills over onto the sidewalk) made me cough and not able to sleep. I went back to the staff and said I wanted to leave and look for another place. They said, oh we do have another room except we can't give you the key right now because we can't find it, but we can open it for you. This didn't sound good so I said, no thanks I would like to leave now. I had paid for 5 nights so we haggled about how much I should be charged/reimbursed. They charged me for the night that I couldn't stay for due to the above problems; plus they charged me for 2 more nights because of their 48-hour cancellation policy. My argument that I wasn't really cancelling and that it was rather the unbearable accomodations that made me return (not cancel) their product didn't have an effect - they gave me the first name of the manager and asked to contact her the next day. I didn't contact her because the experience up till that moment was enough for me. Avoid this place.

To Sterile
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 12/19/05
Rooms here are pretty basic. The TV's high on the wall and they don't have remotes. It's not worth watching anyway because the receiption is horrid. There is no social atmosphere happening here.No common lounge to mingle with other travellers.A bit more research will find you a better hostel in SF.
