Delighted!!

We have travelled extensively in our retirements and found that the most comfortable places to stay are bed and breakfast inns run by residents local to the area. While travelling to Georgia from our home state of Connecticut, we stayed at the Barclay Cottage B & B in Virginia Beach. This is a delightful turn of the century inn located just two short blocks from the beachfront. The hosts, Steve and Marie-Louise Lafond, greeted us as old friends. The hospitality extended was gracious, genuine and warm.
Our room was immaculate, decorated with charming Knick-knacks of days gone bye but with a bed which turned out to be even more comfortable than the one we have at home. The bath was large and fitted with luxurious towels which complemented the warm fluffy robes usually found at 5 star hotels.
The amenities included snacks available throughout the day, a comfortable common room and a nice library of books and DVD movies. Music CDs were available for use in our room.
The wrap-around covered deck with its wicker furniture gave us a chance to relax and converse with our hosts and other guests. The small patio, sparkling with lighted strings of scallop shells, provided us with yet another peaceful refuge from the hustle and bustle of the active Virginia Beach summer activities.
The breakfasts were magnificent. Home baked breads, fresh juice and fruits, gourmet coffee and omelets to order for the first morning, and the signature French Toast breakfast with all the accoutrements on the next.
We found the Barclay Cottage to be a delightful place to stay and at a price much more reasonable than the impersonal hotels which dominate the area. Would we stay there again? YES! YES! YES!
