Henry F Shaffner House, Winston-Salem

The house is restored wonderfully and I was initially pleased with the setting. However, this impression was short lived after realizing that the room had a "private bath" located 2 halls and approximately 40 feet from the room. The bathroom plumbing was not working; the sink leaked at the faucet and the commode did not flush properly. The next disappointment was the unclean room; under the bed were a used tissue and some coins. It was not surprising that a dust mite allergy was affected. The breakfast was tasty but served by an unshaven host who was wearing shorts and sandals. For the past 15 years, bed and breakfasts have been a preferred accomodation, the location is convenient for Wake Forest University and local attractions although, I would not recommend this establishment.

I was married at the Shaffner house in 2005. The house was perfect for the wedding. The 80+ people fit perfectly on the outside deck. The problem, and why I won't go back, is that the cost was double the initial quote not including the beer and wine. Well wine since they didn't offer beer even though we picked 5 from a list that they should serve. My Best Man paid the bill with a check I left him, since we left first. He didn't know and by the time we got back from our honeymoon the check had cleared and they wouldn't return my call or a hand written letter. I wouldn't want to give them business but the rooms are great as is the service and food. Just DON'T rent the whole place for an event.

This Bed and Breakfast is very beautiful. I like it a lot. From Rooms to food, and even service...it was great. My mom had her wedding there and was very inpressed!!
