Best Birthday Party!
By Nichole, 01/23/10
A group of friends and I drove to the stone lion inn to participate in the murder mystery. We had such a great time and can't stop talking about it. Everyone was dressed perfectly for the roles they played. Uta (the hostess) was hilarious and great at keeping us on track. We enjoyed a good meal and although I didn't try it the cheesecake looked delicious. My only complaint is that with our larger group we sat in a separate dining area so we missed a few of the clues for the murder. I think overall it was well worth the money and drive to Guthrie. I have recommended it to all my friends and family and hope to go back for another murder.

We loved our experience there
By Valerie, 11/12/09
We had the best time. We went with two other couples we know and really enjoyed ourselves. The murder mystery was fun and exciting and the host was very entertaining. The dinner was good. We loved having the chance to rent costumes and get dolled up for an evening of fun. We also took some wine and champagne and that added to our enjoyment! We look forward to finding more friends to go with us next time.

We will be back!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/05/09
We went with a group of friends visiting from out of town, as well as friends from OKC. One of the couples in our group even drove up from Houston just for the event! The host is wonderful: she really gets everybody in the spirit, and takes pictures of everyone throughout the evening so we have some to enjoy afterwards. I love that she posted the pictures online for us afterwards. The tone of the evening is set from the moment you walk in the door: the decor takes you back to the 1920s time period :) The entire evening was well orchestrated, and a blast! We plan to bring more friends in the spring.

Ideal Group Adventure
By Lori, 11/05/09
I am a tour coordinator for an active older adults group. I planned an overnight trip to Guthrie with many fun excursions on the itinerary. A murder mystery dinner was the anchor for this whole trip. With the Stone Lion Inn being haunted, I thought it would be the perfect backdrop to a Murder Mystery. Our group went on Thursday, October 29, 2009. I made arrangements over the phone and through email since I live out of town. They were willing to work with me on my special accommodations. The only thing I wish could have worked out would have been our group staying over in the B&B. We had 20 in our group and would have had to split up into three B&B's across town. It is ideal to have us all together. Also, we have several ladies that double together and all the bedrooms had single beds. So just the Murder Mystery Dinner was the ideal choice for us! I thought the post WWII era mystery was a perfect choice for a theme for the dinner considering our group. The woman who owns the home writes all of the murder mysteries. We had ten male roles and ten female roles, but only one man in our group. Nine of us ladies enjoyed playing the parts of mysterious men and “South American playboys." Many of them brought full Men's suits and hats. We arrived around 5pm and enjoyed our first course of hors d’oeurves that was characteristically-placed on an embalming table from when this home was a funeral parlor. This was not realized under halfway through the evening. After brief introductions by the home owner, playing the part of “Uta,” not to be confused with the state, we gathered in the dining room for our meal. We were served three more courses: salad, soup and chicken and rice. This was when the murder took place. After the entrée, we had time to mosey around the B&B (since there were no guests staying in any of the rooms) and look at the rooms and furnishings. We then continued with the investigation of the murder in the downstairs parlor room and performed our speaking roles given to us at the beginning of the night. We were then told that we had all the information we needed to figure out “who dunnit” and discussed it over our final course – cheesecake drizzled in chocolate for dessert and coffee. The murder was then solved and discussed after the final course. The owner then shared some spooky stories with us about the history of the home as well as sharing historical information about the town itself. She was a delight and very funny throughout the entire evening. We were finished shortly after 9pm. Overall, we had a terrific experience with the Murder Mystery Dinner. Our group had a fantastic time pretending and playing roles they otherwise wouldn’t have had the opportunity to. I heard nothing but positive comments from our attendees, and we shared many, many laughs that carried over into the following day. The pictures prove it! The only other thing I wished I would have caught on to before we arrived was bringing our own alcohol. They provide the glasses and mixers, but not the booze. I would have been prepared ahead of time with a few bottles of wine if I had read the fine print I guess. So don’t forget if that’s a kicker for you! Our group still enjoyed ourselves sober, AND we figured out the murder (which only 3% of guests do). We think it was partly due to us being sober. So if you are looking for a unique, playful and fun night out enjoy a murder mystery dinner at the Stone Lion Inn. The food is excellent and cooked homemade by a gal who has lived in the home over two decades! It’s an once-in-a-lifetime experience that you will share with others and stay with you. You’ll want to come back again!

I would do it again!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/05/09
What a great time we had at the Stone Lion Inn on Halloween night! The play was all in fun and the innkeeper is a hoot! We went with friends and had a blast dressing up and playing a part for a night! I would suggest going with friends or a group to have the most fun. We were fortunate to have gone with friends and the mix of people was good. The evening is meant to be campy and fun and it was. If you are expecting serious and stuffy. Stay home or go to a more secluded inn. It was fun seeing people in the morning and trying to figure who was who in costume the night before. Dinner was ordinary but breakfast was great. The innkeeper was very accomodating when I asked if they had hot chocolate. She happily fixed us four cups of hot chocolate while we sat and visited about the wonderful evening we had had. We had a great time and even my straight laced husband enjoyed himself.

Not a good choice
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/26/09
I always wanted to try the Stone Lion Inn. I've always heard it was fun. Well, I was very disappointed. My husband, I, and another couple stayed at the Red Brick and Roses. The downstairs was pretty nice with a wonderful jacuzzi tub and bed. However the upstairs was not even ready for tenants. First of all, the wallpaper was ripped coming up the stairs then at the top of the stairs, I noticed mold on the wall. The bathroom has a claw foot bathtub which was stained. There were nice towels but a note came with them. "Please use these towels to put around the bathtub so if any splashing water does not drip on the bed below." Really??? Then in the bedroom area, there was packaging tape covering the vent on the ceiling. Okay so we paid $275 for this? The murder package was okay. Really just sitting around reading our lines when our time came to. Food was prepackaged. Not great at all. I do not recommend this place to anyone. The ghost who is haunting the place must be running it as well.

Awsome Adventure
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/15/09
The dinner theater was a blast, I had no idea of what we were getting into, but I would recommend that anyone with a sense of adventure to give this a try. Show up in costume and play the part until the end of the night, wake to the smell of fresh brewed French Pressed Coffee and at breakfast you may find it hard to figure out who was who from the night before. Good food, great hospitality from the entire staff (Both of them) and an all around good time. Two Thumbs Up to the Stone Lion Inn!

Great house, fun time for ADULTS.
By Ronda, 10/06/09
Yes, I would recommend this experience to those of you with a sense of adventure - you can't be shy or uncomfortable acting in a silly role - and you must understand the nuances of a CENTURY home. My sister and brother-in-law visited last year and after hearing about their visit, we decided that we needed to attend too. Yes, the house is a century house, custom built with 100+ year old architectural and engineering styles, material and technology. If you're not sure what that entails, I urge you to do your homework and check it out. In those days, typical homes had far fewer amenities than by today’s standards. For example, bathrooms at the Stone Lion were built into the individual rooms for OUR comfort – most turn-of-the-century homes still had chamber pots and/or outhouses (I, for one, am glad she put in bathrooms!!). At the turn of the century, electricity was a new phenomenon and IF they were serviced by electricity, homes were typically very dimly lit, electrically scarce, places. All of that said, if you expect to spend the evening in 1907 home outfitted with 2009 amenities, you will be disappointed. The “feel” of the house would be completely lost if those upgrades were made and I for one, am glad that Becky has chosen to maintain the house (mostly) historically rather than “modernizing” it completely. Regarding the murder mystery – if you’re not going to play along, there are plenty of other B&B’s or hotels for you! This supposed to be fun and silly, so take it at that. Becky plays the part well and may offend some, but again, take it with a grain of salt. If you don’t want to participate there are numerous other places you can stay. The people make the fun – if you are apprehensive or don’t want to participate, it ruins the fun for everyone. Several folks commented that they thought she was drinking – we did not see that at ALL. Were we told to BYOB in the email instructions and you could choose to drink or not. It was totally up to you. The food was good, could’ve been different, but it was good. During dinner, Becky gave us some historical background on traditional Victorian table service and manners, which I thought was very interesting. She seemed to “snap” at a couple of us when we passed plates the 21st century American way, but it was just in fun. Having traveled to Europe several times, their customs make much more sense to me now because of what she told us. Are there some things that could be different to improve the experience? Yep, there are. Checking in could be done a bit differently, including more instructions on where to go to do it. Becky does come across a bit short sometimes, but it’s all in fun. If you’re easily offended, either put on your big girl/boy panties and prepare for it, or go elsewhere. Are there repairs that could be made to the house? Yes, but again, it’s a Century house so just expect it. If you want a 5-Star Waldorf Astoria, well, this isn’t it. BUT most B&B’s are in old houses, with “old house” issues. Again, be prepared for their nuances and personalities. The house was and is, grand. It is beautifully decorated in period antiques. My husband – who is an Army Ranger and takes everything very seriously, was NOT thrilled about having to go and is critical of everything – had a GREAT time and would go back BECAUSE he understood what to expect. Go and enjoy yourself, it’s worth the fun.

Great Time At The Stone Lion Inn
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 08/11/09
We had 18 people in our party for a murder mystery event. All enjoyed it very much. The theme was great, food outstanding and the overall experience was excellent. Fun was the key to the entire event. Host Becky Luker was super. Her stories about the Inn were interesting -- much history of early Oklahoma. I highly recommend this venture for all mystery lovers.
