A Very Happy New Year
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 08/23/08
Avila Lighthouse Suites is a great place no matter what time of year! The staff is friendly, the rooms charming, and it is steps to the boardwalk and beach. We enjoyed a New Years Eve dinner event at a nearby restaurant. Great food, fun, and laughter. The beach walk was serene. We try to stop by at least once on our trips up the coast. Kid friendly too- there's a park across the parking lot. Prices can be a little steep even off season.

AWESOME!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 03/06/07
We have stayed at the Inn at Avila for several years and we keep coming back. Being right on the beach is wonderful. The roof top villa is totally awesome for children and adults. A must stay!

Will go back real soon
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 02/20/07
We just got back from The Inn at Avila Beach celebrating our anniversary. The location is perfect!!!! It's a two hour drive from our hometown and the weather was great. From the minute we walked in our room, we knew we were going to have a good time. The staff is great and we can't wait to go back.

Great view on oceanside
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 01/04/07
Great time, the concierge/night man upgraded us to ocean view for only a slight price hike and made it so we'd have the room without having to move (since we requested it when we got there and others were booked for it). Free wi-fi in the lobby and free cocoa and coffee, it was great. And, location, location, location. Anytime you visit San Luis, think of staying in Avila here overlooking the ocean.

Loved It, Cozy, Romantic, Clean
By amy, 09/23/06
If you are planning on staying at Avila Beach, this is the place to stay. We had a cozy room with a Mexican Motif that had french doors overlooking the ocean. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The rooftop sundeck is wonderful. There are hammocks and very cozy lounging areas where you can sit and watch a movie at night. The Inn has a huge selection of videos for its guests. They also offer hot chocolate, tea, coffee and bottled water at no charge. Popcorn too. If you are into fancy schmancy, I am not sure this place is for you. It is cozy and romantic but not really fancy. The Inn at Avila Beach is a great place to relax.

bad experience- poor service attitude
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 09/16/06
Although reciently renovated, this very old property was run down and lacked A.C. Our room was stuffy and was aquiped with only a standing fan. We wern't given the delux room they sold us when booking. When we complained, the general manager said "you got a good deal". The owner later insulted me in an e-mail. We were very disappointed overall. although well located, try a another hotel! There are many nicer places near by.

This is My Idea of Nirvana
By Keeps_Fire, 01/27/06
The rooms are all different and beautifully decorated. The spa rooms are to die for (soooo very romantic), as are the beach front rooms! I stay here every 6-8 months, the peace & quiet and luxury I experience makes me "A Happy Camper"... The staff is friendly and helpful...the lobby has free internet, and there is a community kitchen in back where we have been known to gather & party w/ the other guests & staff. Cellphone reception is very limited. Lots of free movies, reading material, tea, coffee & popcorn! Just steps from the ocean. The sun deck at night is an awesome experience. This is my favorite place to stay when running away from the craziness of everyday life.

Not what I expected, but...
By Kara, 05/16/05
From researching online and reviewing photos, this place looked like a steal. The beachfront on the small, almost secluded beach was nice. When we saw it in real life, the hotel itself looked bright pink and a little gaudy. The regular rooms(not ocean view) were VERY disappointing. They face a parking area and the outdoor hallways reminded me of an old motel. They were not very clean, and the furniture itself was old and weathered. The bathrooms had old, cracked tile in need of a deep cleaning. The atmosphere is cozy, definately not luxury. The staff was very friendly and they have an entire collection on video tapes they let all of the guests use, which was really cool, and everyone seemed very friendly. I would recommend it to anyone who is looking for a place where location matters most, not too picky about a fancy place.
