Tired of staying at Hotels/Motels?
Hollywood Hills is more like an apartment complex rather than a hotel. The view is spectacular and the rooms were very clean and spaceous. The beds had down comforters and very fluffy pillows! I enjoyed the down comforters (I went in March) since I hate traditional hotel sheets. The bathroom reminded me more of something you would find in a Bed and Breakfast in the countryside rather than a hotel in Hollywood. Very nice touch.
The location is set back on a small hill right underneath the Hollywood hills and multi-million dollar mansions. While it is somewhat off the beaten path, it is still within walking distance to Grohmann's Chinese theater, Kodak theater and Hollywood Blvd. You will have to walk about 1/2 mile or more but trust me, you'll be doing that any ways since parking is expensive in the Hollywood area.
The only problem I faced was that there is no lobby for Hollywood Hills. You need to check in at the Magic Castle Inn down the hill. This was not mentioned anywhere. When I drove up to the hotel, I wouldn't have known where to check in if it weren't for the parking attendant at the Japanese Restaurant next door. I normally check in late so if it weren't for her, I would have been clueless where to go since it's not noted anywhere that you need to check at the sister hotel.
As another reviewer mentioned, you have access to the Magic Castle facility including the contenential breakfast. The staff kept stocking the breakfast items up until the end of breakfast. Most hotels don't bother restocking during the last 30 minutes or start putting things away close to the end of breakfast. Not at the Magic Caste/Hollywood Hills.
One thing I might add is that while the Magic Castle is within walking distance of the Hollywood Hills, it's about 1/4 of a mile up and down a steep hill. There isn't any parking at the Magic Castle (like most hotels in Hollywood) so either you walk or not eat breakfast. Also since this hotel is on a hill, I would recommend leaving the Hummer/Monster SUV at home and driving the smaller car. The spaces aren't really that small but somewhat tricky since it's built on a hillside.
