La Pensione Hotel, San Diego

Best kept secret in San Diego. Wonderful, clean, charming and close to everything. i have been staying here for many years and all of my family/friends love to stay there, too when they are in town.

I've been coming to the hotel for years. It is a perfect location with a very nice surrounding area. Can walk to bay and downtown but don't need to leave Little Italy because of all the great restaurants. Rooms are small but clean. Price is right and always affordable. Love the staff! They have always been respectful to me. I would recommend this hotel to anyone.

Our stay was a very awful experience in all our stay in hotels. 1) No parking and you have to find your own parking on the street 2) Front desk wasn't a help, suggestions of parking area gave us more trouble, we even have to wake up at 5am to move our car because of street cleaning) 3) and most important specially in California during summertime...AC. NONE whatsoever. Hallway was cooler than our room.

I drove over 6 hours to stay at this hotel and what a waste of time that was. The staff here were unbelievably rude and not at all helpful from the onset. They lied about parking availability and would not offer any alternatives when hotel parking was "unavailable." Both the front desk person and hotel manager were irate and uncooperative in every respect. The manager basically said to get out and get your refund because he did not want to deal with us. We gladly did so as we would never want to stay at a horrible place like this that treats their guests like garbage. What a suprise and what a dissapointment this was. We could not believe there were people in the industry who acted so unprofessionally. Save yourself the time and trouble and find a respectable hotel with staff who actually care about their guests.

Absolute worst travel experience of my life! I was thrilled to find this place online and booked my reservations weeks in advance however, this outlook abruptly changed upon arrival. I quickly discovered this hotel is not what it seems. According to front desk clerk no parking was available in their hotel lot and although I was told over the phone, prior to making my reservation, that they would provide additional parking options if this were the case, none were provided. Staff was extremely rude and unaccommodating. Manager was even worse, referring to himself as "god" in terms of speaking to someone else who would be willing to assist us with parking. I write this in hopes of saving someone the agony and verbal abuse that my party and I received while visiting the hotel. Do not stay here! Find another hotel in the area, as we ended up doing, that will treat you like a human being. There are plenty of other places nearby with a great San Diego Location!

When my wife has a conference in SD, we like to come a couple of days early. We always stay at the La Pensione. We love the european feel and it is in walking distance to about everything. We love it.

This hotel was good in all aspects. A nice place to enjoy. Good service was given by the hotel staff, would like to visit this place again along with my family and friends

Though the rooms were a little small we loved the place. It was clean. The staff were helpful and nice. And the nearby restaurants were great. We especially loved the deli "Caffe Italia". Sitting on the sidewalk in the A.M. was a reminder of our time in BIG Italy!

On a sponateous getaway not prepared with a lot of cash I found La Pensione in a traveler's guide. The location near the trolley and gaslamp quarter, where an exciting nightlife and great shopping can be found made it the perfect spot to be. The rates were very good considering we were in San Diego. The service and calm suttleness of the place made me feel like I had just came home. It was very romantic and memorable.

What a great place! Great location! Right in Little Italy. Very homey, very clean, bright. Walking distance to everything. Right near the trolly line. We enjoyed the wonderful food at Fillippis -- right across the street. The staff were courteous. It had everything we needed including ice machine & modern laundry facility in well lit room near lobby elevator & refrigerator in room. If we have an opportunity to return to San Diego, we're coming back!
