Low key, honest, southern hospitality. Steve was the best guide: he told us right up front that he could either tell us what he knew about the swamp OR, he would just shut up and let us enjoy it, if that's what we preferred. He had lots of nice insights.....the electric motor was totally silent...........just a WONDERFUL (NON) PADDLE wih lots of birds, gators, an OTTER! We'll go back again next year if at all possible. My wife and I have traveled all over the world, but as life long Georgians we had never been to the Okefenokee. We have just recently returned from our first trip. (Certainly not our last) We chose Okefenokee Pastimes because of it's proximity to the Eastern Entrance to the swamp. Our stay there exceeded our expectations. We camped there for a couple of days, field testing new camping equipment and doing day paddles in the swamp before venturing into the swamp for over night stays along the permited canoe trails. The swamp was absolutely beautiful even though in the middle of a severe drought. The amount and variety of wildlife we saw was amazing. We returned to Okefenokee Pastimes following the canoe trip to stay in one of the cabins to unwind. The camp ground was clean, well kept and superior to any of the national chain camp grounds in those regards. The cabin was very comfortable, clean, neat and just what we needed after a rainy, windy night in the swamp, sleeping on a back pack air mattress. The owners were cordial and very helpful with recomendations of what to do and see in the swamp as well as recomendations of where to eat etc. around the Folkston area. The rules eluded to in another review are for the safety of all and to set some level of decorum so that those that might infringe on the rights and enjoyment of other guests does not occur.
