This Prairie-style house was built in 1914 for the Edward Cohen family, who owned department stores. St.John's House features big rooms, serene porches and a tranquil location a block off the river. Two rooms feature handmade quilts on queen beds, while a third offers a double bed over the garage with a private entrance. You can dine in your room or in the formal dining room. Quilts are a big focus here, and the operators of the inn sell handmade coverlets from all over the nation, including Amish and French-Canadian creations.

A Gem On The River!!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 04/01/07
My husband was meeting my family for the first time (when he was still my fiancee) and we bounced around from other "high-end" hotels....such as The Omni, The Hyatt....etc., but were too far away from my family in Middleburg. We were only able to stay here for two nights, but we would have stayed the entire 10 days if it were possible! Beautifully decorated, ideal location, and amazing service! This is a rare find in the Jacksonville area, once a beautiful home and now an awesome bed and breakfast. We well definitely be back again....just make sure you book in advance....waaaaay in advance in the summertime months as they do weddings and whatnot as well. The prices are a little high, but well worth it if you're considering paying top dollar and don't want to be considered a "number" in your room.

We will be regulars if we're lucky!

What a warm, welcoming, STUNNING place to stay. Joan, Dan and Kingsley are the consumate hosts, the accomodations are delightful and the ambience sublime. Just across the river from 'Downtown', there is so much to keep one busy in the Avondale, Riverside/Five Points area that you forget the rest of the vibrant city of Jacksonville is out there. After a full day, it's lovely to sit on their porch and just unwind. St. John's House immediately became our refuge of choice when we head to 'the big city' from the Panhandle.
