The Galleon Resort
If you could escape to a corner of paradise each year without leaving the USA, the Galleon Resort would be the place to go. The Galleon Resort offers the best of amenities in a beautiful and gentle tropical atmosphere. Whether you're interested in long-term accommodations or just a weekend get-a-way. Sunbath at the pool or curl your toes in the sand of the cozy private beach. And afterwards, if you are up to it, work out in the exercise room or get active on the water with windsurfing, jet skiing, parasailing, fishing, or snorkeling on our coral reefs, or sailing our gorgeous waters, all available on site at the Galleon Resort.
When we arrived, we were told that we did not have a reservation. We had a confirmation in hand from our travel service. Long story short, reservations person at the Galleon failed to put the reservation in our name as told by our travel agent. We stood in front of the hotel for 2 and a half hours until our agent found that the hotel staff was at fault. When i asked them to waive the 21.00 resort fee to make up for the mistake, they said "no". I dont believe that they cared. The manager on duty while this was taking place, left at the end of his shift while we were still trying to get this figured out. The hotel is in a nice location, and the bartenders and secondary staff are very nice. The front desk people need to go to charm school or customer service classes. Maybe the resort can find some Hospitality professionals, instead of the grumps that they currently are stuck with. This vacation was like taking medicine. Hold your nose for the start and feel better as you go.
Great location... outdated with very poor, very small parking spots.. however, I have been coming here every year for the last 20 yrs so I know what to expect... but be warned that small kids can EASILY fit through the balcony railings!! My 2 1/2 yr old daughter EASILY fit right through the railings with just a slight turn of her shoulders... her head went through with a couple inches to spare! Within a split second- and I was standing RIGHT there- she slid through the railings hanging on from the OUTSIDE of the balcony and said happily "Look at me!!"... I was in total shock and scared to death! Luckily, she calmly came right back in as easily as she got out. I explained to her that she can never do that again and she could get really bad boo-boo's! When I explained it to the front desk, I was rudely told they hear that alot- the resort is not meant for small kids- and I needed better parental supervision! I was so mad because I was RIGHT THERE! He asked me "What do you want us to do? Plexiglass the whole balcony??" I simply explained, maybe there could at least be a letter in the room stating that kids can fit through the railings, or some sort of warning... I mean, there were even numerous letters in the room stating to not put lobster tails down the garbage disposal, can't they at least put a small warning somewhere for the safety of their guests??? He again told me that parents need to supervise their kids.... Overall rating- good for older kids...
Me and my family go to key west every year, so we got a timeshare. The pool and private beach are great. The service is ok but the front desk is rude. I love the room so much we have a two bedroom room that face the marine and a second room the faces the pool and beach there both on the 3rd floor. I can say that it isnt cheap. Every thing else at the galleon is great!!!! I just love the tiki bar. In the morning on thursdays there is painting pottery witch is one of my favorite things to do. I will be going to the galleon for a long time i just love it.
First I must say, we had a very nice view from our room of the Gulf of Mexico and the pool is very nice. This is where the nice part of the Galleon Resort begins and ends. My wife and I come to Key West twice a year and have stayed at some of Key West's nicest hotels and timeshare units. The front desk clerks at the Galleon need to take a course in interpersonal and customer service skills--very rude and act as if your smallest request is a complete inconvenience to them. First impressions are very important and it leaves a bad taste in your mouth when your first experience with a resort is rudeness. We had broken toilet seat that needed to be fixed and the maintenance man was rude as well. He made it a point to find my wife and complain about our use of air conditioning--Key West is a tropical climate and air conditioning is needed with the heat and humidity
Housekeeping--what housekeeping?? I understand at a timeshare you do not get daily housekeeping and we did not expect this as we are timeshare owners. No towels were changed during our week stay, we needed to empty our own trash, and I don't want to even speak of the condition of the bathroom-the toilet was a science project and was probably not cleaned for months. I had to laugh when housekeeping made it a point to leave an tip envelope-that really takes some nerve. My wife had to sign a release form just to get the balcony doors unlocked--I'm staying at a resort on the water, why in the world would I want to be able to see the water or sit on the balcony?? I had to go to the front desk three times and sign a form just to get the balcony doors unlocked.
In the guest directory it states as part of the check out procedure you have strip the linens from the beds and on top of it you could be responsible for an excessive room cleaning charge. The Galleon is not the best Key west has to offer!!!
We stayed at the Galleon for the first time July 2009. When we checked in and went to our room we found that someone else was in the room. We called the front desk. They immediately came up, but it was three hours before the room was available. We loved the the space with two bedrooms and two baths especially since our teenage son was with us. The location was great to walk to Duval each day. The pool was large and never crowded. It had recently been updated with new decking and new furniture. The place isn't new, but had been renovated and was clean. We liked the free parking and internet. We would probaly stay again.
I have stayed at this hotel twice once last year and once a few weeks ago. Our first stay the room was not what we had reserved and we had to have it changed and the customer service reps were very rude. I booked this hotel to stay at during my wedding a few weeks ago thinking that it couldn’t be as bad as it was last year, unfortunately it was worse they booked me in the wrong room after I had been on a waiting list for a balcony room when I told them there was a mistake they told me I was wrong and they wouldn’t refund the money I had paid for the supposed upgrade. I made all my agreement through their reservations department and I dot see how this mistake could have happened. I even called to confirm my reservation and they said it was a balcony room. I also tried to rent the observation deck for my wedding ceremony the assistant manager said he would have the board look over my request, but no one every contacted me back. I called 6 times and just got dumped into voice mail. Being that I have stayed there before I was extremely disappointed at the terrible service, especially the lack of courtesy on my wedding. I would never recommend this hotel or go back.
It was my first time going to Key West. The Galleon made me love it even more. The staff was very helpfull as well as friendly. If we needed anything, they had it and were happy enough to suuply it. The pool was wonderful. The rooms were beautiful and very luxurious. The location was great.
The Galleon resort in Key West Fl. has an excellant location. We stayed their without a car and just rented one for 48 hours for an off-island excursion. Most activities, restaurants, bars, etc. are in walking distance to the Galleon. Bicycles, mopeds, various electric vehicles are easy to rent and a fun way to tour the island. I rented a four seat electric car for the elderly and disabled in my family and everyone else went on mopeds. The whole group was able to stay togethere for the day.
Galleon management were extremely helpful to resolve accomodation issues.
I have purchased two weeks at the Galleon based on vacationing their and having great trips. The resort implements significant upgrades every year and is well maintained. My family has spent the past five Thanksgiving' at the Galleon.
The Galleon upgrade / improvement process for the past couple of years have focused on hurricane recovery and improvements to prevent damage in the future.
Galleon is planing significant internal upgrades in the next couple of years.
Having said this I have stayed in all of the resorts in the downtown area. Galleon is as good or superior to most accomodations that do not require an individual to cash in your 401K to pay the bill!
