Budget Key West, Key West

For Key West to be enjoyable your choice in hotel is crucial! The Budget Key West has the smallest rooms of any hotel I've stayed in, ever. The floor wasn't vaccumed and the cups/glasses weren't even washed. There was actually two (2) seperate certificates to notify us that "the rooms are cleaned according to normal housekeeping practices but are NOT sanitized", and these notices were complete with the FL state seal. Gross. The walls had chipping/pealing paint and the door had a nearly 1" gap on the bottom. I inquired about hurricane damage prior to leaving and they assured me there was no significant damage in Key West. They were right! Just a few branches and piles of leaves on street corners. This place was simply run down. The worst part was the location. This hotel is RIGHT on Eaton, which has LOUD traffic on it all throughout the night. Every night. On Key West there are scooters everywhere, and many of them are 2-stroke (LOUD... like a leaf blower or line trimmer) and they go RIGHT past your door at this hotel, even at 3 a.m. I was suddenly woke up every night several times by these scooters or even police sirens! My point? You will do yourself a HUGE favor by booking at one of several Key West hotels which isn't directly on the road. There are many choices of semi-high-rise hotels and a few that have significant grounds surrounding the actual accomodations. Choosing one of these alternatives would have made the difference between a fairly enjoyable stay and a very unpleasant one. If this review is considered a personal attack then that would be very unfortunate for the readers who's vacations would benefit from my own lack of investigation on this hotel. The topology of Key West makes it crucial to be close to Duval (at either end) and preferrably in one of the hotels with higher floors or larger grounds which will allow you to sleep when you get done partying on Duval Street.
