Peace of Maui, Makawao

This is the cleanest and most quiet hostel I have ever stayed at. The beds are super comfertable. We slept like babies. And we really enjoyed the convienience of the mini fridge in our room. I couldn't believe how clean the bathrooms were! The location is spectacular for people looking to explore all of Maui like we did. This is by far the best hostel I have ever stayed at! I've never written a review before, but Peace of Maui is one of those rare finds that I don't want other budget travellers to miss! Truely a gem! We can't wait to return!

Loved Peace of Maui. Loved it, loved it, loved it. Great location, great accommodations at a great price, great people. I showed up with no reservation and they were full that night but set me up in a tent with an extension cord from the house, and got me into a room the next night. Is it for everyone? No. Those who wrote the negative reviews should pay $1000/night and stay at the resort next time, sitting poolside with happy natives catering to their every whim - because that's obviously the experience they were expecting but unwilling to pay for. You saw a mouse? In Hawaii? In the country, on the side of a volcano? horror of horrors! Casey, who worked there, told me they had some guests who asked her to kill the geckos on the walls. This is not the Ritz Carlton, it's a beautiful, wonderful, natural, peaceful place run by great people.

Peace of Maui is well designed, clean, full of good, welcoming Aloha energy. With 7 room choices in the main lodge, and SIX bathroom areas, 3 with showers and 3 with sink and toilets, it feels more like a B&B than a hostel. The open living/kitchen area is laid out well with great storage, including special pantry areas labeled for your room. You can save $$ for other fun activities by preparing some of your meals here, eating at the tiled breakfast bar or out on the patio. John and Tammi take good care of this place with regular maintenance and upgrades. They purposely keep the prices reasonable so more people can enjoy Maui, even the ones on tight budgets. We always stay here as we explore other areas of the island, so convenient to so many places - Kahului, airport, Hana Highway, Paia, Baldwin Beach, Ho'okipa, or upcountry to Makawao, Haiku, or Kula.

I'm surprised to read the negative reviews about this place- it was PERFECT! It was located in real Hawaii- not a generic touristy place. Very clean rooms, restrooms, kitchen. Everything was fully functional. I visited with 3 other friends and we were all very happy. The birds were chirping at 6am which was annoying but hey it's Hawaii! Had some apple-bananas from the bushes in their garden. Just sad we didn't stay any longer.

Hawaii is the best but the hostel is the worst !hte hosts were so brutal no words to describe it!dont ever go there!not clean very messy veryunfriendly!

This place is extremely clean! I was very impressed. The beds are also very comfortable with cute bed spreads and nice sheets. The hot tub, internet, and TV+small refrigerator in the room were nice additions. There were 6 rooms, but I never once had to wait to use the bathroom or kitchen. There was also a nice mix of people staying there, so it's really made for anyone looking to save a little money. If you're looking for night life and excitement this is not the place for you. This is a very quiet and relaxing place surrounded by sugar cane fields. There's not much around. But after staying in a busy town, this is just what I was looking for. And the excitement is a only a small drive away. My biggest complaint, is that I never once got a chance to talk to the owners. They told be to reserve on-line and then they just leave a key in the room and write a scribbled note on a post. There could at least be a bigger and more welcoming sign. There's also a big dog right ouside the main entrance (which is very friendly, but couldn't there be a better place for it?). Despite these complaints, I highly recommend it to anyone trying to budget. Overall, it is very nice.
