cozy and friendly

you cannot expect three-star hotel for only 2,000 yen in kyoto. actully, i think TOJIAN give guests more than 2,000 yen if i only tell in terms of `money`. it gave me breakfast in the morning, free beer and alcohol enable with free laundry, etc. i really cannot figure out how they can manage to offer the whole services only for 2,000 yen. if you don't like it, you don't have to go for it. but, i'm sure that it does give you real good pleasure if only you are a little bit open-minded.

Avoid this place
By zee, 11/30/05
First impression before getting in: the 'noren' (typical cloth hung in front of the door) was torn and dirty. Then after getting in, the guesthouse smelled smoke and we were 'welcomed' by a sleepy host who was just sleeping there in the tatami room where they accept guests. The toilets stank. The hallway (where the rooms were located) smelled like toilets. When we entered our room: 1. there was a used towel hanging (and they didn't removed it even after I reported it to one of them), 2. the bed were not made, we were not sure if they had changed the sheets and blankets, 3. the room cannot be locked. And as it is a house of thin wooden walls, you can hear your neighbor in the next room talk and giggle. They don't have a bath or shower room, so guests should go to a sento (public bath) nearby, and they will reimburse. (I remembered reading from their website that they had a "free shower".) At night there were some people who appeared to be the friends of the guesthouse people, probably from the neighborhood, chatting and drinking and one was already drunk. In short, what we saw there was so different from what we saw on their website. It really fools people (or just us?). We immediately decided to walk around that late at night to find another place despite being tired, and never spent a night there.
