Wonderful Place
My stay at the Laguna Lodge was an exceptional experience in every way. The lodge is both an eco friendly and luxurious oasis inside a national park. I would recommend this place for everyone including: families, couples, single travelers, and children.
Eco travelers, photographers, and children will love this place because it is located in the middle of a rainforest. Various types of fauna venture onto the lodge including: lizards, parrots, and monkeys. There were these interesting lizards that ran around the lodge using their hind legs. You can also see howler monkeys in the trees. They let out these loud howls that could waken an entire city. There are also these cool nurseries where the staff raise and protect butterflies and frogs. You can tour the nurseries and see the tadpoles and caterpillars in various stages of growth. The caterpillars become these large and majestic blue butterflies. The lodge is located about 100 feet from the beach. I was able to take a tour along the beach to see the marine sea turtles nesting and laying eggs. The staff also offers memorable boat rides into the rain forests where you can witness crocodiles and large turtles. Even the lodge pool is a unique experience. The pool is designed with a spectacular marble bridge and maze making it a tour unto itself.
People looking for the comforts of home will enjoy the exceptional bar and restaurant. I was able to drink and watch the World Series on the satellite TV in the bar. The food in the restaurant was amazing. The staff had an exceptional buffet each night with different and unique international cuisines. There is a neat little tourist shop on the lodge. The shop sells wooden masks made by the local Indian tribes. You can find many of the items at cheaper prices elsewhere. Buying items in the shop, however, will fund the local Indian tribes as well as the lodge's efforts to protect the rainforest. The lodge cabins were comfortable enough. Each cabin has its own bathroom with a shower and hot water. Electricity and towels are also provided. I was given an entire cabin to myself since I was a solo traveler. Other couples and families were given their own cabins as well.
You can also take a boat taxi ride to the island of Totuguero. The island was holding a festival honoring the beginning of summer when I arrived. The islanders decorated boats with various fauna and sailed them down the river. There are also tour guides on the island who hold evening tours that will enable you to see nocturnal animals such as tapirs and jaguars.
Stay at this lodge. You will have an experience of a lifetime.
