We received a call on the way up to Lake Wallowa from Doug that he had the opportunity to rent the same cabin for 4 more nights than what we were staying and he took that reservation instead! we lucked out and found someone else that would take our one night stay (cute cabin called the Ponderosa with the red door off of the little road by the general store with another company) but it would have been devastating to our kids to not have a vacation! It was an awful experience, but the other company had a nice place, good service, and they didn't call us and tell us that they wouldn't be renting to us!
Do not confuse this with the Wallowa Lake Lodge. The Wallowa Lake Resort is not some where that I would recommend to anyone. It is advertised as having rental homes and cabins, but the beds are terrible in many of them. The mattresses in many are from the 50's or 60's and are not comfortable at all. The "futons" in some places are actually just couches that do not fold out or are so old that they are not comfortable. The owner is very difficult to work with and does not appear to know how to run a business. He threatened us with bogus charges when we tried to talk with him about the resort. Free wireless is listed on their site, but was not working.
The owner of this place was completely unreasonable and the people managing it were also quite rude. My family reserved two cabins at this place and one of the cabin's water went out on the first night. After having a day of having to walk to the other cabin for the restroom or pissing in a bucket we had to move around to a different cabin for the next two nights and for the last night of our stay there was no extra cabin to put 2/3 of our family reunion. We had to cut our reunion short. The owner refused to refund us for both cabins, did not clarify that that was his intention until after we checked out of both cabins and left, and then threatened to charge us additional costs for cleaning the cabins and the additional cost of the cabins he moved us around to. He then threatened that he would take us to court for the additional costs.
Most of the mattresses in the cabins were also over 25 years old and uncomfortable. The cabins also advertise that they sleep more than they actually do (unless you are willing to sleep on pull outs and are ok if some of the pull outs do not work properly).
