New Shoreham House, New Shoreham

This is the best bargain on Block Island: located right across the ferry docks in Old Harbor, New Shoreham House is one of the island's best locations for shopping, restaurants, entertainment, beaches, and hiking. Like a European pension, there are shared bathrooms on each floor. It's quiet and family-friendly. The building is old and run-down, but clean and safe. The rates are a real bargain, especially for weekday stays. A continental breakfast at the National Hotel next door is part of the deal. I've stayed here for four consecutive summers and I'm returning this year.

I love this place as the price is right and there is a great view of old harbor. I have left my paintings on the walls and hope to see other artists follow suit. I don't care that there are sharred baths. Hope other artists follow suit. -Deb Woodin-

The New Shoreham House is really more of a rooming house than a hotel or B&B and with its off-kilter staircases and hallways, shared bathrooms and lack of electric appliances, you get a real sense of staying in a 19th century house. The beds are comfortable and the location cannot be beat. There is a really nice deck overlooking Water St. and the harbour. If you want to spend most of your vacation in your hotel room watching TV, sitting in a jacuzzi and ordering room-service from your king-sized bed (or if you are a whiny fancy-pants), the New Shoreham is not for you.

This inexpensive hotel room served us well for the few evenings we spent on the Block! Although it was a historic property which may need a little TLC, the rooms were comfortable, clean, and within our budget. If you are more of an action-packed person like myself, you wont end up spending very much time in the room anyways. Travel to the Block, stay with New Shoreham. The sights are awesome and the savings is worth it!

We had a wonderful time at this rustic hotel on block Island. It had everything we needed.. It was very basic, right near the beach and across from the ferry. We did share bathrooms, but it was no big deal! We didnt even see the other people! We had such a swell time I think we'll be going every summer until we die! Yay Block Island!
