Dirty, Dusty, and full of cobwebs.
By kinda p, 9/6/10
The Painted Lady fell way short of the comfort zone. It sits in a high traffic area so If your looking for a quiet, clean place to stay this is definatly not it. Upon Check in the entrance was not clean, the ear plugs on the bed were a giveaway, I found wrappers on the floor, food particles on the bedside table and livingroom table, tons of Cobwebs and dead bugs, small live bugs around the drain in the bath tub, mold in the fridge, and waded up (i presume dirty) sheets in the wardrobe in the bedroom, and later found alot of food particles under the couch & chair cushions. I also found the rear entrance door had been left unlocked later that night. When I spoke with the Owner (the next morning) he stated the knob was a safety nob (one of those that opens from the inside but is locked from the outside) and that he purposly left the deadbolt unlocked. Upon my return, I found this to not be true. So I wonder why the door was left unlocked? He also stated he would send somone to clean the place. Upon returning that evening , we discoverd someone had come and cleaned only the places I mentioned. (Cobwebs in Shower window, food under couch cushions, and they did a little vacuuming). They didn't bother with what I didn't mention. Cheeto's under the chair cushion, a thick layer of dust throughout the house, cobwebs and dead bugs in every corner, and the floor had not been vacuumed well. Apparently he didn't really care. When I phoned him, I asked if he would like to come down and see what hadn't been cleaned. He said NO. He also seemed offended when I asked about our bill. It wasn't itemized, just a total, and as I have been in the retail business for over 15 years, I had inquired at a gift shop at to what the sales tax in the area was, not thinking about an additional hotel tax, so it had looked like we were overcharged. So of course I would question the bill, but according to him it was right on with the 14 1/2% tax. Even though one hotel in town I called, said their tax was 13%. I would have left for another place, but my fiance didn't want to have to move our stuff. Seriosly, He couldn't have taken 15 minutes and gone the 3 blocks to see how grimey the place was? You are also only alloted 1 hr. from 8:30 to 9:30 to get your breakfast. I knew we would not be getting up that early, so I asked, in an email prior to my arrival, if I could get some breakfast supplies the night I checked in so we could make our own breakfast. I was told the kitchen has some pots but was not stocked with dishes, and that we could get it to go.(no offer of supplies) anyone that has ever gotten breakfast togo, knows that by the time you get it there...its cold. SO..I took my own dishes, groceries and toaster, only to find the kitchen stocked w/dishes. They got out of having to pay for our breakfast both days. There were lace see thru curtains on one of the bedroom doors that led outside, and the curtains that were in the jacuzzi bath room only went 1/2 way up the widow. Needless to say, I didn't use the Jacuzzi bath. The light from the building next door brightened up the bedroom at night, perhaps a shade would help instead of blinds.I've never stayed in a B&B that didnt provide a minimal amount of groceries when asked for. It's a shame this place is so grimy, Because it is perfect for a couple that is looking for privacy and the ablitiy to relax on thier own time schedule. They got our $250 for two nights without so much as a hint of a discount for the lack of cleanliness. We'll be in Hannibal again in a few weeks, unfortunatly, I wouldn't even consider staying there again. So..my search for another place to stay, is on.

Nice accomodations
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 8/21/07
This unit is around 3-4 blocks away from Lulabelle's--where breakfast is served. The breakfasts were very good as was the service. We were far enough away from the trains mentioned in reviews of other Lulabelle's units that it wasn't a problem. We visited Hannibal with two of our college aged children. The posted rental was $125 but the final bill was $30 more--$15 for each for our children. The unit is listed as a four person minimum occupancy. There is no mention of the additional charge, I understand it because of the additional food and housekeeping--and didn't press the issue.
