we cant wait to go back
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 5/24/08
I am from Hannibal and took my husband back there for the first time. He acknowledged that the frinedliness, relaxed nature and overall moral fiber of the people he said was 'palpable' from California, where on the roads and highways, there are NO police and lots of stressors and anarchy going on. WE LOVED Lulubelles. Comfy, cozy, with a jacuzzi in every room. The food was really good too. Several of their own recipes, like the portabella mushrooms, was awesome, as was the early bird special for $11.00 which included shrimp for an appetizer, a nice salad, fresh baked bread, and awesome blackberry wine. Cant wait to go back. Reccommend to anyone except those with their noses in the air.....you know who you are.

Perfect Romantic Getaway
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/4/07
My girlfriend and I recently stayed at Lula Belle's for a romantic getaway. We stayed in the Safari Room, which was a themed room in Belle's Secret (an offshoot of the B&B itself). The room itself was very comfortable and offered a tremendous amount of privacy. Each of the two mornings we had breakfast, the owner was there to take care of us. Very friendly guy. I've seen some posts about the trains. Yes, they do come through that area, but it did not detract from our very memorable experience. I would highly recommend this establishment to anyone looking for a nice private weekend getaway. Belle's Secret is awesome!

good hotel
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/22/07
The owners were very friendly. It was quiet. The food was very tasty. It's one of the least expensive B&Bs in the area too. Stay here while you can! The owners are selling.

Great, rustic place to stay
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/31/07
For the type of place that it is, this place was great and very much affordable. If you are looking for all of the fine amenities, then...maybe you should consider the Hilton. Going to a rustic river town and finding a treasure like this is priceless. Breakfast was really good and our host was very friendly. We'll be back again!

Don't waste your time
By Kuan, 4/24/07
The menu is blah. I ordered a tuna steak sandwich rare. It was supposed to be grilled but it came out blanched. It was served with tartar sauce, lettuce and tomato. You would think they'd serve it on some other bun with different garnishes, not ones typically served with hamburgers.

Weekend romantic getaway
By Julie, 1/23/07
My fiance(boyfriend at the time)and I spent a weekend here and were very impressed with this place. Looking at the description as it used to be a brothel I was a little reserved but decided since it was my first time in a B&B I gave it a try. Boy was it wonderful. We enjoyed the atmosphere and the food is TERRIFFIC!!!!! It is in a great location with the river behind the hotel and now we are planning on trying to go back this year and maybe get married there.

Never again
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 1/3/07
We had planned a quiet weekend escape at the "secret" location. The room was ok, but definitely not worth the price. Then there was the noise. A train about half block away that went by every 30 minutes or so. The noise from people at all hours of the night in the street was terrible. When we saw "Lulabelle's train mufflers" on our nightstands, we knew that trouble was ahead. The mufflers were ear plugs. Breakfast was awful. You are given no choice at all. We had requested lowfat food and received omelets and fried potatoes. The room was clean and very cold. The bed was nice. We will not be returning and do not recommend as a romantic getaway.

Horrible experience
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 1/3/07
My husband and I planned our anniversary trip to Hannibal to spend a relaxing day seeing the sights and enjoying a bed and breakfast. We checked in at Lulabelle's in the afternoon and were greeted by a less than friendly bar staff person who took us to our room. The upstairs area where the bedrooms are was not very appealing with worn, dirt/brown carpet and a musty smell. The worst part was from time we settled into our room that evening the train was going by every 20 minutes. The train is a stone's throw away from the building. We ended up leaving at 1:30am and heading home. We left two messages that night on the manager's voice mail. We wanted to let him know we were leaving so they did not plan on breakfast for us. We asked that he return our call to discuss the charges. We called a total of three times and never received a return phone call. They charged us the full amount without an explanation or return call. We will not recommend this establishment to anyone.

Pleasant visit
By CamperTim, 12/21/06
Stopped here for dinner one night with Mrs. Camper and some friends. The place was definitely hopping. Dinner was good, service was friendly, and the bar appeared well-stocked. Interesting bit of history with the building too (an old brothel).

Best Kept Secret of Hannibal
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 12/11/06
My wife and I were on a business trip and stopped in Hannibal for the night. Some food contest had every room booked up and we had to drive on to Springfield, ILL for the night. We heard about Lulabelles and was eager to try it out. I've always loved Hannibal because of the ambiance of Mark Twain and the history of this area. My wife, being the lady she is would "appreciate" staying the night in a converted house of ill-repute. We deliberately came back on our way home a few days later just to stay here. It was one of our most memorable experiences. We arrived late and the bartender was the only staff left for the night. He was a crane operator during the work season and worked here during the winter months. We had some drinks and cigars and visited for hours just like old friends. We spent the night in a second story suite (all the b&b rooms are upstairs). The hot tub, sitting room and bed were immaculate. I am not going to give it away but our theme room was called "---- Secret". Cannot remember the womans name the room was named after but it has something about it I have never seen before this night and not anywhere else for that matter. You will just have to spend the night, cause I am not going to give it away. The next day we ended up staying the whole day to see the sights and ended up spending the night again but in a different suite. We finally got to eat and the restaurant was excellent. A very romantic place with candles, cloth linens, the works. We had a great steak supper and drinks. The staff was wonderful and the desert was heavenly. Our fellow travelers basked in a glow that is rarely felt these days. During the day and evening we met many new people and fellow travellers. My lady and I plan on returning whenever we are passing through the area. With the exception of Lovers Leap, Beckys Cave and a mansion on a hill all of the other sights of Hannibal were well within walking distance of LulaBelle's.
