Do Not Stay Here!
The next time we go to Heber Springs, if everything is booked and we are forced to choose between River Hideaway and a cheap motel, we will choose the cheap motel.
Once the owner received our payment, she could have cared less about our existence. This was the worst customer service we've ever received anywhere. We had problem after problem with these accomodations and finally gave up getting them resolved and made the most of our time. Most problematic was the fact that we NEVER RECEIVED A KEY and she was NEVER in her office to give us one. Furthermore, because she also NEVER answered her phone or responded to our voicemails we had to leave our room UNLOCKED each time we left. The entire visit seemed like a practical joke...albeit a $300 practical joke.
Other problems with these accomodations included:
1) The plug in the jacuzzi tub was broken. Had to create a makeshift plug to bathe our child.
2) The shower was intermittently scalding and freezing.
3) The TV didn't work until I finally plugged it into another outlet.
4) The wireless internet didn't work until late in the second day of our visit.
5) It was hot the first night there and the A/C was ineffective, so we had to sleep with the door open.
5) The place is "dog friendly" but on several occasions two of the owners snarling Vicious Dogs forced us to go back inside...so that our dog had to wait until the coast was clear to go to the bathroom.
6) Although there was an authomatic Airwick scent dispenser there was the smell of mold in this unit; my allergies were terrible the entire time I was there.
7) The fishing dock is not nearly as close as advertised, the fishing spot (in my opinion) did not look like a good one under low water conditions, and if you are staying in the lodge be prepared to answer what "you are doing there" by the people staying in the cabins...because you have to walk down the stairs immediately behind their cabins.
8) The walls were so paper thin you could have heard someone in the next unit tying their shoes. Furthermore, when anyone walked in the adjacent units, it sounded like an earthquake.
9) The firepit was littered with trash and beer cans, the tetherball rig was broken, and even if these were working properly the owner's pack of aggressive dogs would have kept us away.
Do Not Stay Here! It's a ripoff joint in a bad location with bad facilities run by an irresponsible owner.
