McCarthy's Inns on the Beach, Englewood

My husband and I came to Florida to get married on the beach. McCarthys is a nice place. We had cottage number 5. It was nice but a little small, but very nice. Jim was nice and upgraded us to house #3, it was very nice! It had everything we needed! Very nice location! This is the place we will come all the time when we are in Florida.

When Hurricane Charley hit Punta Gorda, we spend three days at home cleaning up and then my husband, son and I went looking for a place to stay. We just drove around and found heaven - McCarthy's Beach Cottages in Englwood. We spent 8 days there and it is the only fond memory we have of the hurricane.

From the moment you turn into the narrow driveway, you know you are in a special place. There are just five cottages and each has there own uniqueness. We were in cottage 2, we had a large eat in kitchen, living room with rattan furnishings, step down into sun room, also your dining room, looking out to the Gulf. Two bedrooms, one with king other two twins and a bathroom. A back door out to your car. Everything was spotless and your host, Jim McCarthy was there when you needed him. We were so relaxed watching the dolphins play and the seabirds (lots of blue heron) soaring, and what can you say about the sunsets, that we had to stay an extra day! Other guests fished right from the beach and always had a good catch. Everything you need is right at the site with stores and restaruants within walking distance. We met a couple that have been coming back for the last 10 years and have stayed in each one of the cottages.... can't get a better review than that....can't wait to go back.

McCarthys Inns was a great place to just relax. Small and private. Furniture is not new, clean and unigue. The cottage has a sewing machine stand for a bathroom vanity! The owners were friendly but out of sight. They do live on grounds and can be contacted if need be by ringing the bell at the office. This place is right on the gulf. We felt like we were in our own little house on the water. Nothing fancy, just nice CLEAN places to relax and enjoy Old South Florida.
