A great place to stay in Hawi
I liked this place because it was like a postcard from the 1950's. It was a small, unpretentious hotel for a good price on the Northern end of the Big Island. We paid $65 a night for a room with a full size bed. The room, sheets, bathroom etc. were all clean and orderly. Windows on both sides of our room---back of the building and front lanai, along with a ceiling fan ensured a breeze. Smoking anywhere near the building is absolutely prohibited, which I really appreciated. A continental breakfast is provided and guests can eat together at a big table in the lobby--really enjoyable to meet other travelers over morning coffee. Simple fare: bagels, english muffins and coffee.
The location is a block off the main highway and one can walk to the market across the street, several restauraunts and little stores. There is no traffic to speak of in this small town, so nights were quiet and peaceful. There is one computer for internet connection which I never had to wait to use. The hotel restaraunt was closed for rennovation. The woman who checked us in was cheerful, friendly and quick with answers to questions about the area.
Hawi is a small town and the hotel is a gracious, quaint example of regional lodgings. It is a simple and cute place and I thought, worth the price. If you're looking for luxurious, fancy lodgings, this isn't the place for you.
