Best hostel I've been to
By ,
Secure, comfortable, and a great place to hook up with fellow travelers. If none of these things appeal to you in your quest for a place to stay while in Dublin, then steer clear of this place. Oh; and give your head a shake. Fantastic hostel! 5 Stars...

Best ever
By ,
We had a ball here. It was cheap, clean and great fun. Staff showed us all the best pubs and met loads of backpackers at their free karaoke night. Loads of space and facilities. We moved over here from another hostel and were so glad we did. Must have changed a lot since the last reviewers went here.

Stay Somewhere Else
By ,
My friends and I stayed here in the summer of 2005. It was very expensive for a hostel, and even more costly for what you get. This is the worst hostel we've ever stayed in. It seems that whether you like this place or not depends on if you arrive sober or drunk. We, unfortunately, arrived sober. We can't say that for the rest of the crowd we encountered. The staff apparently permits all night yelling in the hallways. The rooms were matchbox size. The walls and carpets were dirty and stained. The bathroom was repulsive. The reception area was very noisy and reflected the chaos and disorder that reigns here. The breakfast tables were were not cleaned after use. When we complained, the staff was indifferent. Our suggestion of a strong security patrol presence in the hallways at night was ignored. After two nights without sleep we checked out and moved to another hostel closer to the Temple Bar area.

Less Than Adequate
By ,
My girlfriend and I stayed at the Avalon in Dublin last fall. We stayed here because the reviews said it was one of the best hostels in Europe. Whoever said this, must be friends of the management. The lift was not working for several days, so we had to use the stairs. The room was dirty, with no place to put our clothes. When my girlfriend stood in line and complained, she was told to make the best because no other rooms were available. They also had a monitor on the shower to limit the hot water to about five seconds worth - and then we ran out of toilet paper and was told by the staff to hunt for more on other floors. The breakfast was bare minimum. We finally checked out and stayed elsewhere. You should too.
