Ok
Ok place, stayed there 3 nights at start and end of a Cuba tour. substandard by international standards, reasonable by Cuban hotel standards.
First night was on the 12th floor. View was great and room was good, things worked and was decent enough. There is a disco on the 14th floor (there is no 13th floor so we were right below it). Take earplugs.
Second and third nights were on the 6th floor. No disco noise however rooms were of a lower quality. Ubiquitous cuban hotel afflictions, window/doors not closing properly, running toilets, lights in odd places or blown bulbs. Nothing unusual about this so St Johns rates no differently from most it seems.
The roof top pool is good after a hot day walking round Habana.
The hotel porters are reasonable folk and friendly. Having a chat to them is interesting, especially later in the evening. They are very willing to sell you cigars if you ask. Not sure if they are genuine or not.
Breakfast is more 'western' than most, just avoid the tea bags as they are foul. Better value than the Vedado.
