Betsy's B&B, Montpelier

Note: there are two buildings side by side. One is evidently the owner;s home and is lived accordingly. The other is more hotel like. The combo of the two makes for a B&B.

The parking is very limited. The owner, Jon, hit our car. We were charged for the room in spite of the time and inconvenience of haing to have our car fixed. The owners never apologized. We told our waiter at dinner in town our experience. He said "Betsy wears the pants in the family. The husband, Jon, has run for mayor and gets beaten badly." Betsy's B & B was a terrible experience.

My stays have been wonderful. Everyone is kind and welcoming; even the pets are comforting. The breakfasts prepared for you; provide a delectible and elegant experience alone. Thank you for opening your home and family to all who visit. Sincerely, Cyndy

This may suit some travelers but not what we look for in a B & B. Being there felt like we were intruding on the family's life...their belongings were evident everywhere (e.g., piles of shoes just inside the front door). We were barely welcomed by Betsey and shown to our room without any indication of "common areas" so did not feel that we were free to be anywhere in the house outside of our room. At breakfast, Betsey's husband was seated at the and having a loud conversation with a guest. Because he did not bother to introduce himself, we assumed he was another guest. During breakfast, the kitchen door was open and Betsey was loading the dishwasher with the help of the dog licking the plates! She rushed to assure us that the dishwasher had a "sterilizing function". Some may not mind these things but it was definitely not our cup of tea!

We stay there every year. The location is good and the price is right. They've just redecorated and painted. It's a home away from home. Montpelier is a great central location for day trips in all directions of the state and Betsy's is a great place come back and relax.
