Holiday Inn SunSpree Resort All-Inclusive, Montego Bay

We paid for 5 nights, stayed for 1 and left. The front desk clerk thanked me for staying and stated they would not charge me extra for leaving early. I suppose that was their prepared phrase for saying no refunds. Four local bus/taxi drivers rated the SunSpree at 1.5 or 2 out of 10. (Not out of 5) I did not offer a ranking and ask them whether they agreed. They provided those numbers on their own. The food around the pool/beach areas was awful. There were dirty plates everywhere and food was ground into the cement around the main pool. Drinks were provided in small 6 or 8oz. cups like those found at hotel continental breakfasts. The buffet restaurant overlooking the pool area was nice. The food was good but, if you ignore this review and go to the SunSpree anyway, absolutely do not eat the scrambled eggs. Ever. The room had been broken into many times based on the pry marks and numerous torn screw holes on the patio sliding door. Our view was that of a burned out portable building and shanty-town style work area. A grinder was running constantly. The elevator broke down shortly after we checked in and was still not working when we left the next day. The shower by the pool was broken. If people swam in the ocean and then wanted to get in the pool, they had to walk a few hundred feet to use another shower. The beach is very nice. At least those pictures were accurate. This resort is a Holiday Inn by name only. Do not choose the SunSpree based on what you have come to expect from the brand. You will definitely be disappointed. But, at least they won't charge you extra if you check out early.

I have visited Montego Bay, Jamaica six times now to visit family who lives there. We will never stay anywhere other than Holiday Inn, Sunspree Resort. From the very first visit to Jamaica, we found the staff at Holiday Inn Sunspree to be the best anywhere. We were there to find my grand daughter's father (my son-in-law) in Montego Bay, not having a good address, and not really being sure of where he lived in Montego Bay. We decided to venture to Jamaica to see if we could find him so she could see her daddy. We hired a driver from the Hotel, his name is Barrington, (he's the best man ever!!). He began to drive us to several places to find information on my son-in-law, trying to find him so my grand daugher could see her father for the first time in 6 years. Barrington knew people on the island, had connections, and believe it or not, within a few hours we were sitting on the porch of my son-in-laws home and my grand daughter was with her daddy for the first time in 6 years!! I would say that was definitely going above and beyond the call of duty! Needless to say, Barrington earned himself a BIG tip that day. We travel to Montego Bay every year to visit. Holiday Inn Sunspree is always family oriented, always clean, always something happening for all age groups. Yes, there are games and fun activities for adults too. My grandkids love it there at Holiday Inn Sunspree. There is always great local entertainment, can't be beat!! We will never ever stay anywhere else. Our friends at the resort are the BEST ever!! They always treat you like family. It is just like going home! They have a private beach, private island, great family pool, adult swim up pool; with bar, hot tub, great restaurants, barefoot bar,.fun, fun, fun!!

I just got back from the Holiday Inn Sunspree in Montego Bay Jamaica. I can't wait to go back! Absoluetly fun. I had a blast, and didn't want to leave. The food is great!!!! The drinks are good too. The beach was so beautiful. I also went on a tour to go shopping. There are so many things to do while you are there so don't stay hidden in your room. The air there was so fresh and crisp. Again, I cannot wait to go back, it was worth every penny!!!

The Holiday Inn Sunspree is family friendly resort; everyone can get a chance to enjoy the resort. The resort has an adult only side, includes a swim up bar and a whirlpool. The whirlpool was a little sandy due to people getting in and out, the water was murky due to the sand. The jerk hut was outstanding, which include jerk chicken and jerk pork. The entertainment group name MAGIC MOMENT is the resort house band, their reggae selection was outstanding. The resort can use improvements on their entertainment. The water aerobics instructor was superb. A must! Be sure to attend the aqua class, the instructor will work out everything you have eaten on the resort. The resort has four cuisine restaurants and one of them was closed, which was the Japanese restaurant. I was a little disappointed about that. The other three restaurants were ok. Be prepared to spend more money if you want shrimp or a lobster from the Sea-Breeze restaurant. Despite of spending extra the atmosphere was very cozy and romantic. The house restaurant entree's was excellent, be prepared to loosen up your garments, because you are going to eat well. The cleanliness of the resort can improve (housekeeping). The water sports and the snorkeling were superb. Bring your own snorkeling gear, you will be able to save some money, also you would not be limited to time. If you rent the snorkeling gear be prepared be return their snorkeling gear within an hour. Jamaica rainy season is in the month of May. Whatever you do, try to do it early before 2:00pm because you will experience a little rain latter. The rain do not last a long. The good part about their rain is the ground will dry up within minutes because it is hot (85-90degrees) I met a lot of people from all parts of the US. A tragedy happened to one of the guest from the resort. She went to the market on the other side of street from the resort, and she was hit by a car that ended her life, be sure to look right first before you cross the street. The people in Jamaica drive the opposite side of the street unlike US. What I really liked about this resort is that I felt safe, protected and secure. I did not experience any bandits on the resort. To me this makes a difference when venturing to other countries. The resort can use some remodeling and decorating. The resort decor is out dated. Other than that we had a good time and will do it again at the Holiday Inn Sunspree Resort! Looking forward to the next vacation taking suggestion!!! Leon & La Tanya

My husband and I have been to Sandals Negril three times prior to this trip. We now have a 2 year old so need I say more. But we loved it here. The food was excellent. The entertainment was wonderful and all the action by the pool was great. The Jerk chicken hut rocked. The rooms were kind of run downed but the view of the ocean was spectacular. We are heading back next year maybe with out the little guy. The resort was wonderful for the price. We could go 3 times for the price of one trip to Sandals.

It was our honeymoon vacation and overnight I broke out in hives from head to toe. When I went to their on-site nurse’s station, they told me it was from the sun, but I told her that I had just got there and didn't even have enough time out in the sun. I went to the nurse’s station and they did nothing for me. So I went to the management staff, I told them I believed I had an allergy to the detergent they were using in the linens which included all the towels and bedding. All they could do was put brand new sheets and brand new towels in my room, which they did. I told them not to change the linens ever again for the rest of our trip, and wouldn’t you know they did. I was living off Benadryl cream and pills my entire trip, and once I got home had to go straight to the Emergency room and was placed on and IV drip bag of 3 different types of medicine. The doctor said he had never seen such a severe case of hives before, I was released from the hospital, but had to go back for several more injections. It took me 4 weeks to heal from that entire ordeal. Also while we were staying there we had met 6 other couples and at least 1 person out of those 6 couples had also broken out in a rash. The one couple exchanged telephone numbers with me and she also had to seek medical treatment when she came home. I would never go there again, nor will I ever tell anyone to stay there again. I only got 1 good nights rest my entire trip. My arms were so bad I could not even move them they were swelled up so bad it was beyond pain, and their on site nurse's station and their management help is a complete waist of time.

We had a wonderful time at this resort. The rates were reasonable, great staff, clean facility, food was great, and very convient to shopping, nightlife and airport. Can't wait to go back.

Upon check-in we were greeted with smiles and a drink was served while we checked in. Our room was very nice and the staff were all great.Of the three restaurants on site our favorite one was the SeaBreeze, Delroy and David were very professional and the food is fantastic. Our favorite bar was the Jerk Hut, Antoinette was the best bartender in the resort and everyday starting at noon they serve jerk chicken and pork which was awesome. For the money you just can't beat it!

This was the most exciting resort. Words could not express how I felt about the holiday inn sun spree....it was a sweet vacation.. My grand children didn't want to leave. I became a kid at heart.. The staffs was pleasant., they poured their heart out to the guest....room was clean...food was good...entrainment was nice...sea was relaxing....what more can anyone ask for in a Jamaica all inclusive package....I'll be back next year.

We can't wait to go back. Please understand, if you are looking for a five star resort, then you'll want to go elsewhere. However, this is in our opion,a wonderful place to go on a budget where there is plenty of white sandy beaches, water toys for all ages, large family pools and an adult area of the beach with it's own pool w/ pool bar! Drinks galore, just hand them your cup and they'll filler up! I suggest taking a travel mug as many others did otherwise you are given a small plastic cup which doesn't hold much. Drinks and Sodas are at your disposal! Entertainment everynight on stage at the pool. Be patient as it really gets going later. Above the main lobby is the club and reservation only Mexican and Italian restuarants. We didn't care for the Italian restuarant. The Sea Breeze is awesome though! It's right on the beach. Get a seat on the deck if possible as it's so close you could spit in the ocean! Here's a tip given to us by the staff. The reservations for the specialty restuarants fill up quickly. You can only reserve a restuarant one day in advance so as soon as you get there, go and reserve one, then as soon as you get up, go to the information/tour desk and reserve one for the next day and so on! We had no trouble getting what we asked for by doing this. We asked about it while checking in and this is what we would told. The casino really isn't much. Just a little room with a few machines, but you can always catch a shuttle and go to the HUGE casino in town! The beach huts line the whole beach and are perfect for relaxing in the shade but you must get there early to get one. Otherwise you'll be in the sun, but there were always plently of chairs whenever we were on the beach. Music was easily heard wherever we walked. The rooms are not new but ours was very clean. They are in the process of renovatiion. We didn't mind because we were rarely in the room! The view was great from our 2nd floor balcony in building 2. The jerk chicken hut was great. The buffet is what you make of it. It all depends on your taste. It will please most but there are always those who will complain. The coffee is Blue Mountain and to me very strong. My husband loved it but too strong for me! Kids and familes will love the main pool located once you walk throgh the lobby. The lobby is a large open area with ceiling fans only so dress VERY cool as you may have a bit of a wait getting checked in. They go as fast as they can but when you have a large shuttle full of people, it can take a little while. While in line, they came around with a welcome drink of wiskey sours and Rum Punch! Theres a nice spa area but we didn't go there. We were beach junkies. We've always done cruises and this was a nice change. We spent far less money here with it being all inclusive than on a cruise with all the extras we nornally do! Again, its not knew but nice! The grounds are gorgeous! We can't wait to go again!
