Century House, Nantucket

My family scheduled to come to Century House almost 2 months in advance and then we decided to cancel the day after the reservation was made. Obviously there was still PLENTY of time to find alternate guests in our place. Nonetheless, the innkeeper refused to refund the full amount and charged us an exorbitant fee of almost $300!! Not only that, she also tried to pull a fast one by changing one of the rooms we had reserved at the very last minute and without our prior permission -- of course to a much worse room on the 3rd floor instead of the first (with no elevator). When we told her that was grounds enough to cancel our reservation, she made up a story about why she had switched the rooms and immediately gave us back the original room. Clearly she was trying to save the good room for someone else who she wanted to entice to stay at her inn. Lastly, it took 3 requests and 2 weeks until she finally cancelled the reservation and gave us back 90% of what we had paid. The innkeeper behaved in a very disrespectful manner, which was completely unacceptable and I highly recommend avoiding this place!! BEWARE!!!

I stayed with my husband and extended family for a couple days. We were looking for a more upscale charming B and B in Nantucket and when we arrived we knew we made the right choice. This place has everything you need and more: munchies in the afternoon, homemade cookies, movies to watch. Nice porch and patios. Quiet location, walking distance to and from the town area. Absolutely beautiful rooms with private baths, exquisite design, and a really good breakfast. Perfect overall; we would like to go back very soon.

We love this inn, we chose it because our friends highly recommended it to us. It was our anniversary and we made vacation out of it. We typically stay at B and B’s and stayed on Nantucket a few years ago. Our experience before was just ok. However, after staying at the Century House we would not stay anywhere else from now on. When we first walked in we were greeted and helped to our room. The stairs were a little steep but we knew this would be typical for an old house. Once we entered the room we were surprised to find a champagne bottle and glasses and some chocolates and a small note…we felt that very welcomed and it was a nice gesture. They had included it at no cost. The rooms are kept crisp and impeccable. We needed suggestions for restaurants and they were happy to assist with the best choice. In the room there were some beach towels that we used and when we needed extra ice my husband asked for it and they were happy to serve us. They did not intrude at all. The breakfast is great with many healthy choices. We were very impressed with this inn and will also recommend it to others.

Love Nantucket and bbs. Stayed at The Century House last year and will be going back this May. The inn is nicely renovated, quiet, clean with beautiful art; very good free breakfast. We didn’t know what to expect since we stayed at other old inns before and the walls were so thin you could hear people snore. Very frustrating. But surprisingly the inn was very well built; The old wooden floors were redone and absolutely gorgeous, the décor is unique and very beautiful; and you couldn’t hear the noise in the room next to ours. Also, we were on the first floor right by the front door we weren’t disturbed. Oh, and the location perfect, close to town and the beach.

This is a very good choice for a Nantucket place to stay. I would highly recommend it because of the location and because it still has a true feeling of Nantucket. It's not a typical hotel-like atmosphere but more welcoming, where you feel like you're a part of. They have a lot of outside sitting possibilities so I always enjoy the Nantucket breezes and the sunshine. The rooms are also incredible: they renovated them recently. I've stayed before and now and they have always been ultra clean; the beds always fresh and comfortable. And the breakfast something I look forward to every morning. JeanE and Gerry are very welcoming, friendly and always accommodating our needs. Last year I came with my husband only and before my family has been coming for over twelve years to Nantucket. Once in a while we rent a cottage but we love staying here also. Before the season begins is the best time to come in my opinion because the island isn't so crowded. I can't wait to return again with my hubby this summer.

We're coming back in July 2009 and can't wait. We had a great time every summer in the last couple years. Nantucket is our favorite island to spend part of our vacation and were happy to found this inn a while back. Very quiet, relaxing, and close to everything we need. We highly would recommend it.

Beautifully designed, well-kept, very clean rooms. Great breakfast. The large collection of paintings makes this is very unique. Perfect location with gorgeous mansions surrounding it. Couldn't expect a better place. We're planning to return.

My wife and I and our two daughters spent our yearly vacation here this past summer. There were many choices for hotels and bed and breakfasts but we decided on The Century House because of the reviews; and we liked the history of the place. We stayed in The Suite which was in one of the corners of the house and perfect for our needs: two separate rooms connected together, with two privated baths. It was quiet and relaxing. They also had a selection of movies for the girls to watch at night and of course the cookies in the afternoon which we couldn't wait for. We felt very safe and very at home here. Good breakfast. Perfect location. We will recommend this B and B and hopefully will come back soon.

This was the first time visiting Nantucket and I had a memorable experience. I stayed here during the 4th of July. The island was packed however the location of this B and B was just perfect; walking distance into town and a more secluded beach, minus the crowds. The inn was relaxing and homey. The innkeeper Gerry was friendly and helpful. He recommended some good restaurants. I most of all looked forward to the chocolate chip cookies baked fresh every afternoon. One day we rented scooters, and rode to Sconset and back; and even though it got a little foggy the scenery was breathtaking.

The Century House is a little gem on Nantucket Island, comfortable, quiet, luxurious, with lots of charm and history. We spent our anniversary here which was very relaxing. We loved the location, the breakfast and our room White Narcissus which was completely renovated this year. There were no pictures of this room on the website but we took a chance and booked it. We were pleasantly surprised with the new décor and the comfortable bed. This is a corner room, bright, quiet, and true Nantucket feel. We will definitely return here.
