33 yr old married couple can't wait to go back
We stayed at Grand Oasis and had a fantastic experience. Booked through expedia a week prior to going and got a ridiculously low price 4nights with flight from Chicago for 650 per person. We asked for the anniversary upgrade package and were upgraded to a 5th floor ocean view in the main tower even though we paid the cheapest room rate. Shortly after check-in they brought us up some Champaign and chocolate strawberries. Awesome view, but we were angled towards the North end of the property which had very loud beach/pool parties that went on till midnight on 2 nights keeping us up - not a big deal though. Someone did try to sign us up for the "tour"/ timeshare presentation, but didn't push us when we said no thanks. Now for the good - We had great water pressure, great airconditioning and a very clean room. Bathroom did have an odor coming from the floor drain at times but was not unbearable. Service was fantastic, but then again I brought a 100 dollars in singles and 5s and tipped the hell out of everybody - what kind of a jackass goes to an all inclusive this inexpensive and thinks they will get great service without tipping? It doesn't cost much ($100) and makes for a much better trip. Place is Huge and the grounds are kept clean and in very good condition! Pool is huge too with many swimup bars. There was an area of the pool that was family friendly on the S end of resort, quiet and laid back in the middle, and a big singles/spring break party to the North. Lots of entertainment and shows put on throughout the day by the staff. Daily classes and activities (yoga, salsa dance, cooking) were also offered free of charge. Food was good, not 5-stars, but I am known for being a picky eater and I was stuffed the whole time. I wouldn't recommend the buffets for anything except breakfast which was very good. The taco cart at the north end of the pool was excellent for a snack. The Akeru sushi bar was great and had a great teryiaki beef and fried rice. I had probably the best jalepeno popper appetizer i've ever had at the cocoa beach seafood restaurant - I don't eat seafood. The 3 reservation only restuarants are where the food and dinner shows really got good, with Careyes being the best (I had one of the best cuts of Filet I've ever gotten in Mexico, and I usually can't stomach any steak at all in Mexico. AVOID the brazillian steakhouse at all costs - worst experience the whole trip - had to walk out, meat was all burnt and overcooked and the buffet portion was all cold - the rest of my food experience was overall good. We Drank frozen drinks all day long at beach and pool and never got the "revenge" - I usually do while traveling in Mexico. The hotel has a lousy exchange rate, I recommend changing some money over in the Airport where we were quoted the best rate - there is also a new law in Mexico that you need your passport to change money. We got a good rate at a currency exchange at the mall while shopping but they would't change it for us because our passports were back at the hotel. The resort has its own golf course and golf is free, but it is a very short par 3, pro shop doesn't open till 8 if you need to rent clubs. Rental clubs are junk and they charge 15 to rent and will sell you 4 used golf balls for 10 bucks. Put a sandwedge, a putter, and a sleeve of balls in your suitcase if they'll fit and golf all you want, when you want, for free. There is plenty of nightlife right in the hotel, but even more if you want to take a 5 minute cab ride up the strip. We've stayed at Ritzier more expensive resorts with top notch food, but they had less "fun/nightlife" and we've stayed at dirt cheap all-inclusives with poor service and inedible food. For a better price than other inexpensive resorts, we got more fun, better service, and better food here. Overall, Grand Oasis has a little bit of everything for everyone and is a fantastic value for the money.
