Past its prime
This hotel used to be a gem, but has declined in a big way. The lobby is grandiose, with a piano bar, restaurant and two sports pubs. Don't be fooled by the valet, marble entry, and chandeliers. When you get to your floor, the halls have the musty odor and unidentified stains one would expect of a 'hotel' in Cancun. Drunken college students run the halls all nights of the week during baseball season (which is fine, if you're a drunken baseball fan, and not a business traveler). As is typical of St. Louis, everything closes at 10pm. On my second day at the hotel, a woman in the elevator told me that the cleaning staff walked in on her without knocking. Oh the irony, the same thing happened to me while I was sleeping. Pretty scary way to wake up.
