ALL AROUND GREAT!
By Abbie, 3/3/11
My last stay at The Islander Inn was quite possibly one of the best hotel experiences I have had to this day! It might have something to do with the fact that the weather was amazing and I was only a few steps from the beach but all around I could not have been happier! The room was reasonably priced, it was clean and remained clean (thanks to the wonderful cleaning staff) throughout the entire week my family was there. The FREE continental breakfast was extremely impressive...toasted bages, english muffins, muffins, danishes, grits, oatmeal, yogurt, fresh fruit, SAUSAGE BISCUITS and WAFFLES, fruit juice and coffee! Needless to say I had my fill! Whenever I had a question for the staff or needed extra towels, etc. they were more than happy to oblidge. One night my family wanted to go out for a nice dinner, the hotel staff recommended The Isles Restaurant. We loved it! It has become our new favorite place to eat when we visit Ocean Isle Beach. We all probably know where our favorite place to stay is...that is correct...THE ISLANDER! We are looking forward to planning our next family vacation!

Islander in reviews: worst hotel on oib
By Rocky, 8/7/10
The Islander Inn of OIB in NC is the worst hotel on the island. We had a terrible experience at this nc beach resort. The room was not ready for 45 minutes after our check inn time. So we sat in the sweltering heat for about an hour with two young kids and a dog (which cost us an additional 60 bucks). You might say “why didn’t you guys go on the beach to kill a little bit of time”…which is exactly what we did and resulted in a fine from the OIB Police for having our dog on the beach before 6pm. Our bad, but you think there would be a sign on the hotels entrance to the beach…which is another disaster. You have to go through the pool area to get to the beach cross over…a pool area with two sets of outward swinging safety gates…guests and their kids running around, a maze of lounge chairs, and busted up concrete….did I mention the two kids, the wife, the dog , and bags of kid supplies..uggg. if you are even slightly handicapped i wouldn’t even consider touring this crap hole. All this aside, we finally get the cleaning crew out of our room and decide to relax on the back porch to enjoy the view of the ocean …which was great so long as you ignore the rattling hum of the rooms a/c unit which is as much a fixture of the decor as the stackable white (mildewed) form-molded pvc chairs. Then the gang of homeless cats arrived (I swear you can’t make this stuff up)…dog is going wild… kids now crying…wife about to freak out…i must react quickly so i go down to the gravel parking lot of the islander inn and shoe them away…but their retreat is just a transient ploy…as soon as i get back up to the porch they are back…only with reinforcemnets to boot…aah, but i am far smarter than a cat…even 10 of them…while the gravel lot was poison to my feet it provided me with some ammunition for a full on assault…i lined the stones along the porches edge just under the railing and waited for the perfect shot. The mangiest of the crew was in sight…my wife dials me in ..”a few clicks to the left”..”you are set”…my foot is drawn back like a driver…fire!!! Hit…Dismay…the vermin thought I was kicking food to them…Yet another defeat…i return inside with hopes that they don’t start to nest in our van. The night finally draws to a Tylenol pm induced end and all attempts are made to ignore the rattle and hum of the out dated ac unit…after all who the heck would want to sleep to the sound of that silly ocean. 3AM…EEERT!….EEERT!…EEERT!…EEERT!!!…and i arose to see what was the matter “alarm clock?” “radio?”…”Fire?”…”FIRE!”…”FIRE!” no fire extinguisher in room …may have to exit off 2nd story porch…no fire escape latter…must go out front door…alls clear we (me, wife, 2 small kids, dog, 2bags kid stuff) make our way to the parking lot. Our building is fine so i go back up get the rest of our stuff and we drive 2 hours home in a van that now smells of cat urine if you use the vents so i can get enough sleep to go to work in the morning. Really freaking cool way to drop almost 300 bones on a room and about that on gas and food. We call the Islander Inn and are told a manager would contact us…he did not…and continues to avoid our calls…Manager even lies to American Express about all of our complaints to avoid a chargeback. Luckily we have documentation of the false fire alarm from the OIB Fire Department, records of them making complaints to the Brunswick County Animal Services regarding the feral cats, and a phone bill showing us call the inn at 8am the following morning. The BBB and NC Attorneys General are going to help us get our money back from the thieves.

Where to start?
By crawdad, 7/7/10
Day 1: Keys weren't programmed to lock, back to desk to re-program keys. Day 2: Woken up by front desk @6AM to ask me to quiet down (yes, really). Had to have key programmed again, girl at front desk thought it funny that the keys were set up for 1 night stay. Day 3: perfect! Day 4: Came back from afternoon on the beach to find we had no water (yes, really!) Called front desk to inform them, said they knew and were working on it. Water back on after an hour w/ black silt in it, called front desk to inform them of this and was told they were still working on it, after three hours we were able to get a shower and go out for the night. Interesting side-note to Day 4: The first time I called, I was told that the water issue was confined to our part of the building (6 rooms) and that a plumber had gone to get a part to repair it, which made sense, since I noticed the water was turned off at the main coming into our part of the building as we came back from the beach, The second time I called, I was told that they were still working on it across the street, which I think was an attempt to have me believe that it was a town water issue. I walked out the front of the building right after the phone conversation, the only people working across the street were mowing & trimming grass, and the plumbers truck was sitting right under our balcony. After day 4, I attempted to contact the manager to no avail, leaving messages & trying to catch him in the office, leaving my cell # and explaining I could be reached on it at any time. At check-out, once again wanting to speak with the manager, I was told that he was again not there and when I asked if he was given my message and why he was so hard to reach, I was told it was"complicated". My best evaluation of the current situation at this hotel is that they have no problems because there is no one for the guests to complain to, I will not waste my hard-earned vacation money there again! After all of this, however, I must admit, the beach and surrounding area and establishments are very nice.

Loved the location
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 6/23/10
The location could not be better, oceanfront. No too big, easy to get to beach, pools, and breakfast room, can walk or take elevator. Large king room with couch that made a bed, oceanfront balcony was large and everything was clean. Very comfortable bed. Stayed in building 6 with dog. Thanks for allowing dogs. Need to put up signs for owners to pick up after their pets, these kind of people make responsible pet owners look bad. Good breakfast but at busy times was not kept stock very well. Loved it would recommend to everyone.

A great getaway!
By Sara, 5/17/10
My husband and I just celebrated our wedding anniversary here and everything about our stay was perfect. Our room was super clean and cozy with an absolutely breathtaking view of the ocean right off our balcony. We were able to walk to a number of good restaurants, they have a great continetal breakfast with homemade waffles and the staff were super friendly and helpful. The Inn's manager greeted us as we checked in and went out of his way to make us feel welcome and to make sure we had everything we needed. I felt like everyone working here wasahppy and cared about what they were doing and that helped to give the place a more personal feeling that you will not find even the nicest chain hotel. If you are looking for a place to go to enjoy a clean and uncrowded beach (and even bring a pet with you), relax and forget everything else, this is the place you want to stay. We did not have to worry about anything. We also saw some beautiful weddings taking place while we were there and I could not imagine a more perfect location...the Inn would be a great place for the wedding party and guests to stay and enjoy the beach too!

Nice inn!
By Local, 10/27/09
The Islander Inn is a great place to stay. Everyone is nice, the beds are great! The location is wonderful. We will be back. May I make a suggestion to the owner? There was bird poop, or cat poop (from the many island ferral cats) on the steps going up.(not dog poop), the entire weekend we were there. The carpet on the end units, need to be cleaned. It smelled like a human had urinated on the top floor carpet, at the steps-entrance door. Also, once inside the hallway, it smelled soured. (Nothing smelled like dog, as these are the pet friendly units.) Thanks!

Going back Again!!
By Sheila, 6/9/09
My husband and I went to the Islander Inn around three weeks ago. We had a great time. The room was extremely clean, we enjoyed both the indoor pool and the outdoor pool. The hotel supplied breakfast and you can also buy a boxed lunch for the beach. We are going back again this weekend.

Awesome weekend
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 6/4/09
The staff is very helpful and friendly ...rooms are completely adequate and well supplied .Includes fridge/microwave/iron/coffee pot etc...The only thing missing was coffee and fliters which I will know to bring next visit . We had oceanfront rooms and it was so relaxing to sit and enjoy the views. The beach is beautiful but for those of you that prefer pools--there are two and a hot tub . Roomrates include free continental breakfast which was more than enough to begin our day. I will be going back in three weeks and can't wait !!! A great place to get away and relax..we parked the car and walked everywhere !!!

Great potential, but.......
By Hugh, 6/2/09
The location is very central to activity at Ocean Isle and the oceanfront rooms all have a great view of the ocean. The pool is small and does not receive good sunlight. The breakfast was very poor quality----especially bad coffee. The hotel staff are not very friendly or courteous. Ocean Isle Beach is nice, but this hotel does not live up to the potential

Nice!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 6/1/09
My husband and I spent a weekend at the Islander Inn on Ocean Isle Beach. Our room had a beautiful view of the OIB Pier and the ocean. The inn is centrally located, so walking or biking to other attractions on the island is easy. Very clean, very quiet. We would definitely stay there again!
