Highly Impressed
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 1/30/08
This being my first trip into Boston, I wasn't sure about the area I wanted to stay in. However, thanks to fellow travelers ratings, I picked the Kendall Hotel as my hotel of choice for 4 nights. I arrived on the red-eye, and although check-in isn't offically until 3pm, they very graciously accommodated me by allowing me to have a very early check-in. My room was exceptionally clean, and very nicely decorated with antiques. The free breakfast served eggs, bacon and pancakes, along with a variety of juices, muffins and much more. The whole atmosphere of the hotel was terrific and I plan to stay there when next I am in Boston/Cambridge. There is a mall within walking distance, although quite a hike, and the MIT Coop right across the street, but that's about it unless you take the T which is located less than half a block. I recommend this hotel to anyone staying in the Cambridge area. And eat at Legal Fish across the street - wonderful food!

Terrific place to stay! Good value for Boston.
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 8/28/07
Location, Rooms, Restaurant, Service, Rates...all excellent. We have stayed at several hotels in Cambridge and Boston but like the Kendall the best, having found it by walking by it in a previous trip. Convenient location next to the MIT campus, near a "T" stop so you can get to downtown Boston or to Harvard in about 10 minutes. Restaurants (Legal Seafoods, etc.) and shops are all around. Plus you can walk across the MIT campus and over the river into Boston in about 15 - 20 minutes. The rooms were new and beautifully done in a New England style with all the amenities and about the cleanest we have ever seen. The lobby and restaurant are in a real firehouse built in the 1890's and the rooms are in a new building attached to the rear, so you get both century old ambiance and modern plumbing! The included breakfast is absolutely terrific! Different flavor pancakes or French Toast are offered every day along with eggs, crisp bacon, fresh baked goods including scones, fresh juices and excellent coffee, etc., etc.. We tried many restaurants in Boston but the best food was the dinner we had in the Kendall's little restaurant. The fresh scallops were especially nice and so was the Boston cream pie. Nice wine list too. The front desk people were friendly and gave us maps, sightseeing directions, and restaurant recommendations. The manager "Brenda" was very nice and very helpful. Rates were a good value for the area. We have paid a lot more for a lot less at other hotels. We enjoyed the Kendall very much in both of our visits and recommend it as an outstanding choice for a Boston hotel.

SO GREAT...Looking forward to our stay for Harvard's 2007 Commencement
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 2/15/07
I stayed at this hotel for only one night in the summer of 2006. I had already booked 3 rooms here a year in advance for our stay during the upcoming 2007 Harvard Commencement and I wanted to stay here to see what it was like beforehand. I was very pleased; not only did the room look as good as the pictures online, but the staff was wonderfully friendly and the food at the breakfast buffet was absolutely delicious. It is a very short walk to the "T" stop on the red line, so very convenient, whether you are headed inbound or outbound. The director went out of her way to accomodate my requests and continues to answer all of my questions very promptly via e-mail. Now we can rest assured that our family will have "special" accomodations during our stay for the "special event" we are attending. No worries, from down here in Texas!

Great Stay!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/4/06
We stayed here with a big group of our family when we came to the area for the 4th of July. They were so accomodating. The rooms were great and clean and very distinct, and unique. Also, the breakfast provided and the restaurant was not dissapointing. Also, near the subway station so you are within easy access of everything!

Thoroughly Enjoyable
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 8/12/06
It was easy to find from the Turnpike. It is close to the subway station. It is clean and very nicely furnished in a quirky way. It's small. The parking is included as is breakfast which was delicious. The service in the restaurant on Saturday night was slow which is a slow night for them and I think the items are pricey. We ate there because we were going someplace else and we were late. What we ate was good, but that's the only part of staying at that hotel that I wouldn't recommend.

Staff unhelpful , unwilling to respond back
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 5/26/06
I left my rain coat in the closet. I remember latter in the afternoon of checking out (Check out is 11AM) I called as soon as I realized I left it in the room. It was not a matter of not being sure I left it. I remember leaving it. I meant to take it but got distracted. It was definitely there! I was told I it would be looked into and would be called back. I did not receive a call on Sunday, which was the next day. I called again on Monday; the staff again promised to look into it and promised to call back. No call received. I tried one more time asking for a manager. Still no luck. I let them know I had taken the lining out of my London Fog raincoat, as the temperature was mild, and the person who now has my coat is welcomed to it! This small hotel lacks the service and the type of employee one would find at a major hotel.

Horrible Experience
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 1/26/06
My wife and I reserved a room, unfortunately our daughter got sick the night before. When we tried to cancel (admitedly less than 24 hours in advance) they refused and charged us for a nights stay anyway! They were totally unwilling to compromise, and work out any sort of deal with us, and just kept repeating, "our policy is you need to cancel 24 hours in advance." They ignored my follow-up e-mail and refused to provide any further information.

you'll want to move it.
I think it was the warm reception that i got that won me over when i checked in; then the free internet access sealed the deal. the icing on the cake (or should i say the scones served in the cafe) was the breakfast the next morning, WOW./// its a must see!

best in boston
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 6/4/05
This hotel is the most unique in the Boston Cambridge area. It has art and antiques through out, great rooms(large and funky) great food at the resturant, if you can get a table, and a waqrm and friendly staff, all at rates that are less than the awful 400 room Marriott across the street. And the best location for doing anything in Kendall Square or Boston and Cambridge.

What's not to like?
By p, 5/16/05
One of the landmark hotels in the U.S. this small, charming hotel seems more on scale with what existed prior to the development of the area by MIT, the Marriott and surrounding "food courts." With a superb chef serving breakfast, lunch and dinner, and breakfast included for those staying in the hotel, one has a sense of being 'home." The staff is helpful and available for directions and suggestions, there is free internet service for hotel guests (one has to pay (10 dollars a day at the marriott - outrageous!!!). This hotel is a gem.
