Lovin' the Aloha experience!

While I rated our overall experience as good, not excellent, our stay at the Waiohai was great. Upon check-in we were assigned one of the many two bedroom condos. The place was beautifully appointed (identical to other Marriott timeshare properties) and very clean. Our category was listed as oceanview and it was anything but. We were ground floor in Hale 7, with an extensive view of the public beach access parking lot next door to the property. The ocean could be seen only with a keen eye, over rooftops and at a great distance. There are only two views available: ocean and island. The best views are saved for "owners". Ask for upper floors, if possible. I will say that our room was most quiet, as the ones that opened up to the center were quite noisy and busy. The good news is that after we were told we could not be moved, we became settled in our temporary home...and grew to enjoy the space very much.
The property itself is very nice. The beach bar serves great food and drinks, the staff is very friendly and efficient, security is visible and your belongings are safe unattended (while you're in the water), the grounds are attractive, activities are abundant, location is excellent (lotsa sun), good snorkeling in the immediate area, overall feeling is very comfortable. We enjoyed coffee from Starbucks located in the Marketplace on property. The Beach Hut however was pricy for chair/board/snorkel gear rentals. Towels are provided. Walk the length of the beach(es), and then order the Pina Coloda from Nate at the Beach Bar. He makes the best!
After a week in the two bedroom unit, we moved to a hotel room. These are apparently a little known secret, according to our timeshare salesman. There are only seven hotel rooms, five are available for booking. The rooms are large and the rate is usually $250.00 p/nt. They overlook the abandoned Poipu Beach Hotel next door- another interesting view. I believe you have to book these directly with Marriott and ask for one. (Not sure, that's what we were told.)
We would definitely return to the Waiohai. Just keep in mind that the summer is when school is out. While the island itself was not too crowded, the Marriott was home to many families with small children. A bit noisy and difficult to find a lounge or space on the beach. Overall an enjoyable time lovin' the aloha experience.
