Not for Everyone
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 12/30/07
The resort is beautiful and out of the way. It takes about 30-45 minutes to get to Honolulu, if that's where you want to go. I am surprised at reading these reviews as they don't mention the additional and endless costs. This place does not nickel and dime you, they hit you with $5's and $10's. The staff is friendly, the resort is like a small fantasy-land and the grounds and rooms are well-taken care of. However, the food is terrible in two respects: 1) it is VERY expensive, and 2) it is more suited to a cafeteria than a resort. I had a hamberger (frozen patty) and a beer by the pool: $23!!!! We had breakfast at the cabana: omlette $16!!! They carge $20 per day for parking. The rental rooms are VERY small, about 11' X 20', more like a cruise ship. They are "lock-off" units of time shares. We stayed with 3 people and were walking on top of one another. A cup of coffee and roll in the morning is $8!!! They charge you $20 per day to change the linen, otherwise, they simple make the bed. The security is so tight, they will not let you leave without using your room key to open the gate. There are a lot of nice things about this 1st class resort, if you don't mind second rate food and 5-star prices.

Great Place for Families
By Radji, 12/21/07
Stayed Nov. 22-Dec. 2 in one bedroom condo w/full kitchen/ocean view. Perfect for our family of four(two small kids ages 5 and 17 mos). The grounds were well maintained, staff friendly and helpful. The kitchen is a must for us as we usually stock up at Sam's Club or Costco. Lagoons were great for swimming and play even when the surf is up a bit. Good location, away from the chaos of Waikiki, though it's only a moderate drive away. North Shore is about 35 mins. Great location to use as home base as you explore the rest of the island. Only real gripe we had was the parking fee - @ $26/day for valet, $24/day self. But, the overall experience more than made up for that. Would absolutely stay here again!

My 40th Birthday and It was Awesome!
The Marriott Ko Olina is everything I hoped it would be! My husband and I are very picky about our hotel accommodations. The rooms are well maintained. The staff was very friendly and the concierge desk gave us wonderful suggestions for activities as well as restaurants. If you stay here, please rent a car because it is not close to island activities. However, this was not a problem for us. My husband and I like to do things on our own time so we drove to the places we wanted to see and stayed as long as we wanted without the expense of paying for the tours. Pearl Harbor really touched me and the exhibits are very informative. We also drove to the north shore and saw some sites along the way (Dole Plantantion, Haleiwa town, Polynesia Cultural Center and gorgeous beaches). Be sure to stop at Giovanni's along the way to the north shore. It's a little truck on the side of the road. Make sure you look for the name because there are several trucks in the general area. They sell shrimp with a side of rice. It was sooo good! The also sell fresh fruit smoothies. The strawberry/pineapple was delicious! And if you can make it, take the hike up Diamond Head. I would recommend you go early before the sun is at it's highest. The view from the top was gorgeous! I could go on and on about my vacation because I simply had the best time ever! I would certainly recommend the resort as well as the island.

Wonderful Escape
We visited on our honeymoon and loved it. Because we had never traveled to Hawaii, we were interesting visiting in Honolulu, but we still wanted the remote feeling. Honolulu was close enough to visit a couple days, but we really enjoyed the serenity of Ko Olina. The lagoons and pool were lovely, and there were several activities provided by the resort. Resort golf course and spa were equally impressive.

Not a place for everyone.
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/05/07
Without a doubt, it's beautiful (right now you have to turn a blind eye to construction completely surrounding the resort -- something we were not told). However, if you do not have small children and you want to enjoy the flavor of Oahu, stay closer to Honolulu or on the other side of the island. There is nothing around the resort to do ... so if you want to lounge at the pool and listen to lots of other peoples children, or lounge at the beautiful lagoon and listen to lots of other peoples children, this is the place. Oh -- everything closes at 10p (something else we weren't told). There's only one restaurant that's open for all the meals -- but if you want, you can grill your own meal at several of the outdoor grills set up on the property (I don't go on vacation to cook, however). It seems to be a hit with the families that travel with small (toddler) kids and grandparents, but for those of us with teenagers, it wasn't a good fit at all. We spent 90% of our time driving to other parts of the island. If you are a timeshare owner at this resort, you know what you are getting in to. However, if you are merely a guest, be aware that it's fancy camping. The Ilihana, it's not. If you want a full service hotel, pay the extra money to stay at the Ilihana.

The best vacation ever...
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/01/07
It doesn't get any better than this. The pool area is amazing and very family friendly. Great tropical atmosphere with beautiful views. The staff is wonderful and friendly and grounds are super clean. Great restaurants and fitness center. Lagoons are beautiful and great for swimming and snorkeling for adults and children. The location is perfect -- away from the crowds in Waikiki, but convenient to shopping. We became owners on our first visit. We couldn't resist! We will be vacationing at Ko Olina for years to come!!

Best Family Vacation Ever!
By jelly, 06/19/07
When we first arrived, we were impressed with the gorgeous scenery being surrounded by water and white sand. You can see the sunset at the beach. We own 4 timeshares and this one was the best. The waters in the lagoons were calm and fishes were abundant. There were plenty of space on the beach so that you can have plenty of privacy. You don't even have to pay hundreds of dollars just to sail out to look for fishes. If you want to see dolphins or whales though, there is a marina nearby where you can hop on to catch sight of these magnificent creations. The staff bend over backwards to be helpful. Mai Tai was awesome. We just expected a couple of drinks per person and end up with a free dinner and a hour of show. We went to the Hoike show at Marriott and were impressed. There were alot of personal interactions with the performers and they ask you beforehand to see if you would like to go on stage so that you will feel comfortable. The luau had plenty of variety for the young and old. They even allow you to videotape the whole show. Seven days were not enough so we bought another week here. The kids both teens had plenty of things to do with the water activities, shopping and shows. We stop by at the condo that were being built next door and find out that they were asking 3.2 million dollars with over a thousand dollars monthly association fees and it was not even furnished or have housekeeping services. Compare to this, Marriott is definitely a bargain. We love this resort and we will come back next year.

A place to Relax
By Eligio, 05/28/07
The staff and the service we received really made the difference. The service we received we thought was better than the our stays at the Ritz (Kapalua) and the Grand Wailea on Maui. The pools and beach are great for kids or adults. The rooms are modern and the free wireless internet is great if you are like me and never really get away from work altogether. The only drawback is no room service but since everything is a 5 minute walk a very minor detail. My wife loved the spa and the public golf course just west on H1 rivals the course at Ko Olina for 1/2 the price so you can get in an extra round if your budget doesn't allow for mult. rounds at Ko Olina.
