Mandarin Oriental New York, New York City

Cetral location right in the heart of the city.Beautiful rooms with veiws looking over central park yet very pricey and not so large.The service is incredible and the pool and spa are glorious.very clean and updated. famouse stars have been spotted there,(like i met jim cary on the way to my room!!!)extreamly classy, not for family stays.

Upon arriving to the Mandarin I was enthralled with simply it's location in Columbus Circle. As we pulled in front the attentive and courteous staff were there to greet me and see to it that I not lift a finger to open a door or lift a bag. The guest check in is located on the 35th floor along with one of the most magnificent views of the city and a wonderful restaurant. The staff that checked us in was friendly and addressed my fiance and I professionally and respectfully and not to mention quickly. As we entered our room we were in amazement at how simply and magnificently clean the room was. The linens were clean and the bed neatly turned down for the evening. The bathroom was a wonderful relaxing treat. A bubble bath with complimentary salts while watching a flat screen TV was just how I dreamt of relaxing once we settled in. The bed was the most comfortable bed I have slept in. The room service was prompt and courteous. The food was a 5 star delight for my taste buds. After a nice long bubble bath I relaxed with a glass of wine while relaxing on the chaise lounge chair by the window overlooking Manhattan as my fiance took a shower while simultaneously watching the game. We felt as if we were a king and queen by the way we were treated. A DEFINITE must STAY if ever in New York City! If only I could live like that every day!

Our trip to this hotel was one of the most exquisite experiences. From the service to the views to the amenities everything was spectacular. I still have not found a shower quite as relaxing as the one I had in the Mandarin. The doorman was exceptionally helpful having the hotel's Maybach take us to our lunch destination instead of a cab. All in all a very fine experience. Can't wait to come back to NY.

We won some money on a riverboat and wanted a weekend in New York. Would only be staying Saturday night (friday night red-eye from the west coast) and since we had 1 night, figured might as well splurge. Got a room with a central park view (though trump's hotel blocks some of the view...) and the room was great - HD flat panel tv. Floor to ceiling windows with the view. We got in at 7am and they let us check in early, which was very nice. We came back mid-day, enjoyed a swim in the pool on the 40-ish floor. That's a great view too. A sobering swim. The Columbus circle scene wasn't quite us, but when we returned, we had a great room service burger at 1am. Sure, it was 24 bucks. Sure, it was 40 after all the fees and such. But it was a great burger. I think next time, getting two would make it more economical. The best meal though by far, was the brunch. Absolutely freaking fabulous. Presentation was great, the flavors were marvelous. And I'm hardly ever this flowery with language. So, though everything was incredibly expensive, we had a wonderful time, the staff were kind to us, even though we were clearly out of place. (Another guest re-booked his room while we were checking in. The phrase was something like - That will be 5 more nights at 2500 a night, Mr. X. - Wonderful.) So he seemed pleased too. Our central park room was 700 for the one night...but we stretched it out as much as possible. Will do again, once we come into some extra cash.

When we arrived there was no doorman to greet us at the door, he was actually at the front desk chatting with the front desk clerk. When we passed them they stared at us blankly, and then asked us if they could help us. The whole exchange was quite cold, not at all what I expected from a 5-star hotel.
The tip of the iceberg was when we were on our way out. We left through the mall exit, after searching for an ATM machine, and returned to the front desk so that my sister and I could get a cab to return home. It was 4:30 in the morning and pouring rain outside, yet once again we had to open the doors ourselves. Now I�m not sure if it was the fact that we were young or Black, or a combination of the two but the same doorman and front desk clerk we had not passed but a half hour before, asked us if we were guests at the hotel. My friend replied that yes we were indeed guests. Incredulous, I asked the front guest clerk why the doorman asked this question when then they both saw us come in. To this she replied, �Well, we saw you go in, but did not see you go out.�
Stunned we went outside to wait for the doorman to hail us a taxi. While waiting, we observed the doorman who had previously neglected to open the front door for us, open it for a different group of guests at the hotel. The final insult came when after trying to hail a taxi for my sister and I for about 5 minutes, the doorman pointed us towards the umbrellas and told us we were better off standing on the corner and hailing the taxi from there. My brief visit to the hotel was terrible, and I would not under any circumstances visit there again.
