9 reviews for Hotel Miramar, San Juan
A bad experience, awful hotel.
By Neisson, 09/02/09
I came in to stay for two nights and had a reservation for a king sized bed with a nice view of the city. In turn, my room was switched to the second floor, where the carpets in my room smelled like dog urine and the toilet couldn't flush. I wasn't able to sleep because the noise of the AC and the cars was driving me crazy but I was too scared to go out on my own at night. There is a building right next to it that seemed to be about to fall in pieces, and crazy drunkards and homeless people wandering by. The next morning I suggest to the lady at the front desk if I could be switched to a different room. At first she couldn't hear me because she was busy yelling at the employee in training, I waited for her to finish and she just told me "sorry, sir, the hotel is booked". I had a hard time finding good spots to park my car at night because there are only four spaces in the back and I had my glasses stolen when I gave them my keys to find a spot for me. Breakfast was terrible. Finally, I had to pay extra charges for telephone calls I never made.

A nice place
By RandyV, 05/28/08
We got in late and they were expecting us and ready to check all 6 of us in! There was one little issue with one of our reservations, but as we had payment confirmation information, they found us a room, even though the hotel was full. They put 2 of us on the private, meeting facility floor so we had a fabulous bird's eye view of the city. The staff was helpful, enjoyable, friendly, truly glad to have us with them and sorry to see us leave. They were helpful with luggage, getting a cab, loading things for us. . . you name it. Our room had lovely decor, the king sized bed was very comfortable, the bathroom had all we needed. The continental breakfast was a bit skimpy but who really wants to eat in the hotel when you are visiting an exciting, vibrant city like San Juan? It was an easy and reasonable cab ride from the airport and located in a nice and safe feeling area. We would definitely stay there again.

worst hotel in san juan
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 05/08/08
I could write a book but here are the highlights. To start it is in an awful part of town. Pic looks good but in fact wedged between an old unused church with weeds up to the doors and an old building that is falling apart with dead pigeons and old rotting rags on every ledge. Nothing to see, bad neighborhood, have to take taxi to somewhere you can actually do something. Homeless people everywhere. Food awful and restaurant closed on sunday so if you expect to eat you have to go elsewhere. The waitresses make it plain that they despise you. The proprioter was extremely rude and ugly to me he made disparaging remarks to me about my guest and he made decidedly anti-american remarks to me. I will never go back to puerto rico much less to the miramar.

This was a wonderful hotel
By Mondi, 04/22/08
The night clerk for the hotel spoke english like it was his first language. He and the morning staff were very friendly and helpful as well. I had read the reviews on this hotel after I booked it and was a tad leary of what I was going to find, but I was pleasantly suprised. The rooms were clean and comfortable and the bed was heaven. In the morning we had a continental breakfast. It was about a 15 minute drive from the airport and there were many shops withing walking distance of the hotel.

Wouldn't want to stay anywhere else!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/07/07
My mother and I took a mother-daughter vacation and stayed at the Miramar for a week. It was a wonderful place to stay! The hotel was beautiful and the staff, especially Ramon, Sylvia, and Jorge (and others that I can't remember their names) were very accommodating and helpful! They gave us directions, recommendations on places to eat, and wanted to hear of our adventures daily! I loved the area that it was in as I wanted to see more of authentic Puerto Rico than the Americanized version that I felt I would've gotten at the Hilton, etc. There's a pharmacy across the street with some very reasonable souvenirs. Los Pinos Cafe, also across the street, had some wonderful Mofongo. The hotel had a very nice continental breakfast and since parking is so hard to find in San Juan the private parking was a lifesaver! The sundeck has a beautiful view! Overall, I wouldn't have wanted to stay anywhere else!

Needs Improvement
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 08/25/06
The Miramar Hotel was just ok. I would not advise any of my friends nor family to stay. If your'e in town for one or two days it will pass. I was very saddened to know that your bedroom sheets are only changed if you leave tips daily. I was also distrout about the complimentary breakfast tickets that were supposed to be isued daily; but were not. I guess that's because they wanted you to purchase food from your small non ventillated room. In a nutshell if you are going for a spectacular time, try somewhere else and please read the reviews that other people leave as advice.

Not what was advertised
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 03/07/05
According to their own website and pamphlet, they are "a short walk to the cruise ship piers." This is completely untrue, because the hotel is about 5 miles away!! Our room was clean, but the overall cleanliness of the hotel was below average. We had no problem with service, but the 2 parties in front of us had room confirmations, but no rooms!!

A real travlers' hotel
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 01/27/05
The staff was incredibly helpful and friendly. My husband and two daughters have adventurous spirits and our location on the island gave us easy access to whatever distination they picked for the day. The hotel rooms were clean and roomy. The breakfast could use some improvement but it was good enough to start your day.
