Alden Unfriendly Staff
By Opral, 7/29/11
There was no good morning or good evenings at the Alden when you entered the hotel and pass the front desk which by the way in front of the elevator. Please note, the hotel is a beauty on the outside but the people within .. blah! I booked the hotel via Hotwire which only reserved King Rooms when it was reserved for 3 people. Well the hotel requested additional funds upon arrival. I should have left then (hind sight). Also NO early checkin. On day two, the housekeeper cleaned the room and took the old towels but didn't leave any. I call downstairs after 9 PM to discover they couldn't get me any until the next morning. Really? The front desk doesn't have a key to linens?? Given the hotel price and size, one would think it would have been an awesome stay. The location to everything is really great for Houston downtown east.

Great Hotel - Horrible Service
By R M, 6/10/11
I love the building and the rooms as well as the location. The bar is great as well; however the staff ruined the stay for me. It took over 45 min for the valet to get my car as they lost the ticket on the keys. I left the hotel the 2nd day at 9:15, returning at 5:10 to find the room had not been made up. Calls to housekeeping and the front desk went unanswered. Housekeeping arrived at 5:35 and entered the room without knocking as I was in the bathroom. I asked them to come back in 5 min and they said OK. At 5:50 the front desk called me to tell me my room would not be cleaned that day as they housekeeping staff was too busy due to many late check-outs and a wedding dinner. The woman was rude and argumentative while explaining that it was not the hotel's fault that my room was not made up. When I left to go out to dinner about 10 minutes later the housekeeping staff were waiting in the hall. When I checked out I had about $50 in mini-bar charges added to my bill for no reason....... Never again.

We will never go back!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 3/7/11
The hotel looked nice enough, but the service was awful. The phone didn't work in our room so I had to call from my cell phone-they weren't interested in the phone not working. We had to wait almost an hour for a bucket of ice because there are no ice machines. We went down and asked the rude person that was working the front desk if they had a shuttle, they said yes. We waited for it forever, then they charged our room $50.00 for it when if we had taken a cab it would've been a $20 cab ride after the tip. We were so unhappy with the place that we didn't even stay the night. When we came back, we grabbed our bags and left.

Nice Hotel
By Breanna, 8/1/10
We stayed at the Alden for one night so we could go to an Astros game. When we arrived we were delighted to find how close it was to the ballpark and so many other downtown attractions and restaurants! The decor is modern, but comfortable, and we enjoyed it. My only frustration was the $25/night to park, but even that's not a huge deal. The staff was VERY friendly and helpful. Will stay again.

Not what you think!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 6/29/09
I was not impressed with this hotel at all. The lobby is very dark, rooms are very small and the bathroom looks nice but is not user friendly at all. Hotel had a wedding reception there and at 11:00 p.m. i couldn't take the loud music any longer. They took the phone off the hook because of people complaining so I called with my cell phone. Hotel smelled in the halls. Parking is $25.00 a night. My husband worked out and there wasn't even water. They wanted you to use room service or their restaurant. Same with coffee. DVD collection was pathetic. Elevators barely could hold 4 people much less your luggage. Homeless people begging for money outside and bailbondmen on every corner. I think they were trying to go for a modern sleek look, but failed because it looks cheap. Valet guy runs around the corner where they parked our car for $10.00 and charged us $25.00. Just NOT impressed!!

Love the hotel and price!
By notgonnadoit, 9/29/08
Every time I have stayed at this hotel it has been a pleasure. The rooms are always clean with fresh linen which is very comfortable. I would recommend this hotel if you just want to get away and relax with your spuose. It is worth every dime that you spend to stay.. actually, I would say you are getting a great deal for the price! The only con present is the parking. There is not enough parking to accomodate the number of rooms in the hotel.

Great Hotel ..... But
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/12/07
Enjoyable hotel, with contemporary furnishings and spacious rooms. Fantastic restaruant (17), where you must try the chef tasting menu, which is customised to suit your own specific tastes. The brunch is also first class. Only complaint is their valet parking. Upon check out, we were asked if valet had been included in bill. It had not and we were not aware of any charge (having booked a suite, we were led to believe this was included). Forced to return to front desk, where $25 was added to bill for one nights valet - which I believe is exterme, considering we had spent over $600 in hotel in just one night!!

Best Hotel in Houston!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 1/25/07
I loved everything about this place. Great service, wonderful, friendly staff who go out of their way time and again to take care of their guests. This is a professional and luxurious hotel and for a business traveler a great home away from home. I can't wait to go back. Food is great, service amazing, its the perfect place to stay anytime for any reason.

" Let's Celebrate "
By Pamela, 5/20/05
This was a beautiful day for a Wedding. The Sam Houston Hotel was ready and on time. This Hotel was very clean. They catered to our every need. The food was hot and fresh. On the second level "What A View" you will see old historical and new court buildings. The staff at the hotel was very much alive and alert to assist us in any way. I would stay at this Hotel again.
