Just okay...
My wife and I traveled from Chicago in mid-October for a 3 night all inclusive stay, this was our first trip ever to Cancun. The trip started off sour when we were on our way from the airport to the resort. We got caught in traffic in the Hotel Zone because a huge fight broke out amongst the Mexican construction workers. We counted at least 10 police cars and 3 ambulances rushing to the scene. This was our first impression of Cancun, and it immediately made us nervous about leaving the resort.
Check-in was relatively smooth at the hotel; the rooms were ready early and we were given our wristbands right away. The room was pretty nice in appearance: The floors were all marble, the fridge was nice to have, and there were liquor dispensers in a cabinet. The worst thing about the room was the bed. The mattress was ROCK HARD! We were definately not the only ones who felt this way either, as everyone we talked to at the hotel shared this opinion.
I'll be honest, the food wasn't very good. Breakfast was consistently good everyday, but lunch and dinner left a lot to be desired. The Albatros was just okay for lunch and dinner, but the selection was the same each day. The Asian place-Shangri-La, was outright horrible. There were only a few dishes to choose from, and you could tell all of them had been sitting under the heat lamps for a long time. The steakhouse-Gaviotas, was okay. The view was great; right up against the beach, but the steaks were pretty thin and fatty.
Another thing we had an issue with was the water. This is an older place that does not have a filtration system, so you have to rely on bottled water for everything.
The service was great, and they definately kept the place very clean. There wasn't a moment where you didn't come across someone cleaning something.
All in all it was a decent trip, but I don't think I'd stay here again.
