Ready to go back!
By ,
My husband and 6 of our friends just got back. We all have already started planning a trip for even more people next year. The Italian restaturant is wonderful! Having a room over the pool was a little loud since we are not early risers! But if you put the TV on the "wave" channel it is relaxing and will drown out any noise. If you want a late night party this is not the place for you. The whole hotel shuts down about 1:30am. You can hang out in the 24 hour room or go to a club in Playa del Carmen. Bring water socks the beach is a little rocky. We had 2 or 3 people cut their feet.

Amazing!
By ,
I absolutely loved this resort! I went with my Mom and we enjoyed it very much. The workers do a really good job at making you feel welcome. Our most favourite part was the entertainment. The Animation Team did a superb job at organizing all the shows and activities for everyone. I miss you all! :)

Absolutely Gorgeous
By ,
Very pleasant staff. Exceptionally clean and well-kept resort. Service and food at The Albatross (buffet) are excellent. Beach and pool areas are well kept and servers constantly offer refreshments. Pool area is the focus of the activities and families. The beach and its chaise lounges is much more quiet and restful. Junior suites are spacious and nicely designed. Even the street-side balconies offer great access to sun and are quiet. Maid service is excellent. Very quick and clean. In addition to a final tip, I brought along a box of fancy chocolates and left them midweek. The ladies were just tickled and extremely appreciative. Our flight was delayed and we arrived at nearly 11 pm. We were put into standard suites that night and by noon the next day moved to our reserved rooms. Be persistant, pleasant, and present and this can be dealt with. We were given a bottle of champagne per room and a lobster upgrade for each adult for this inconvenience. Staff are friendly and smile all the time.

Had a great time!
By ,
Stayed at GPR Christmas-New Years 2005, after Wilma. This is a great place to say. The facility is impressive, the rooms are large, and the bathrooms are outstanding. The staff is very attentive. We took the AI plan, and it is the only way to go at the GPR. The location is also good, with the shopping district only a block away. We were with our family, and included 3 teenagers. They also had an enjoyable time. Highly recomended!

A GREAT VACATION
By ,
This was our first trip to Mexico with a party of 8 plus an infant. The pool, staff, and beach were great. The recreation guys at the pool were engaging and had many fun activities. All the staff were friendly and accomodating. The rooms were very nice and clean. MINOR constructive comments: We tried to book both sit-down restaurants with our all-inclusive plan. One of them had no openings during our entire stay. The buffet was fine, but it would have been nice to have some variety. The drinks from the cabana bars outside were fairly watered down, but as the mom of the group, I saw that as a plus! :) We all thought it was a great place to stay and would go again in a heartbeat!!

We can't wait to go back!!!
By ,
My husband and I went to this resort on our honeymoon 3 years ago and are returning for our 3rd trip next week. We were so impressed by this resort and the staff that we keep returning. The All-Inclusive package is such a great deal and the location is wonderful. The junior suite rooms are huge. Plenty of space to spread out and get comfortable for your stay. Tips are allowed, however it doesn't take much to impress the staff. They are happy to help in any way whether you tip them or not. The location of the resort is convenient to everything in Playa del Carmen. Only 1 block away from great shopping @ 5th Avenue & just down the beach from the ferry to Cozumel. If you're looking for a beautiful resort with great restaurants & the friendliest staff at the best value around.....stop here!

You Gotta Go!
By ,
My wife and I just returned from Playa on Saturday. What an absolute blast!! We did the all inclusive at the Grand Porto. Totally worth it! Our ocean view jr. suite was awesome. The maid service had the room immaculate for us everyday. We debated upon doing inclusive b/c of 5th avenue. We took advantage of breakfast and lunch at the hotel and then ventured out onto 5th avenue for dinner most of the time. The restaurant at the hotel, Santa Maria's, was excellent. Totally worth the extra $14usd for the lobster tail. The inclusive package includes drinks. The beer on tap is XX. Not the greatest so add a lime. Get to know your bartender and throw him a couple of pesos every now and then and you'll get a much better bottle. The margarita's are great- just ask for Cuervo or Sauza instead of the bar brand. The rum drinks are all bacardi. Here are a couple of suggestions: 1. The water and ice at the hotel are purified. However, if you venture out on 5th ave. there are no guarantees. Either start taking an antibiotic before you leave or when you get there go to the pharmacy and grab some cipro. 2. Treat the staff as you would like to be treated. I witnessed some people treating the staff in an unfriendly manner and then complain about the service- duh! Treat them well and they'll treat you well. There english isn't the best. They appreciate any attempt to communicate in their language. I hardly know any Spanish and had a blast learning the basics. "Uno Cerveza, pafavor!" 3. Tip your servers! 20 pesos is like $2 and it goes a long way with getting excellent service. 4. On 5th ave. you'll get bombarded with time share offers and tour destinations. Simply tell them your leaving tomorrow and they'll lay off. 5. Check out Chichen Itzu- totally worth it. We will definitely return next year!

Overall, a great experience
By ,
The staff at the hotel and the restaurants within was excellent! They were attentive, hard working and very friendly. They made our stay a pleasure. My only complaint is that they were overbooked and sent us to the Royal Porto Real accross the street instead. Although the Royal Porto is more expensive, the rooms are nicer and the whole place is newer, the staff at the Royal Porto was as UNpleasant as the staff and the Gran Porto were pleasant. The location of both are awesome with their own private beaches and beautiful views and the rooms in both were nice and comfy. However, given a choice between the two and an unlimited budget, I'd still choose the Gran Porto over the Royal Porto.
