Dostoevsky, St. Petersburg

The mall is nice, and the rooms were not bad... But the staff was AWFUL, did not speak english at all, or at least most of the time did not, and when they did, the word they knew best was NO, NYET, NADA. Customer service does NOT exist at this hotel, and the service charges are outrageous. Hot water was extremely unreliable in the AM, and the cold water was likely to run rust colored. The hotel is relatively new, but the elevators are as small and slow as an antique hotel. The two saving graces of the hotel are the really good little grocery in the downstairs of the mall, and the wonderful pizza place three doors up from the hotel, when you are sick of the lousy russian food, which I was after the first day..... LOL.

I enjoyed my stay at Dostoevsky. It was my first trip to Russia and I found St. Petersburg to be magical and the hotel to be well-located, clean and a very helpful staff. The included breakfasts were very good and it is convneient that the hotel is directly connected to a small mall with a food court. You can literally walk through the hotel lobby and visit the food court if you need a quick meal. I travel frequently for business (20+ times per year) and look for good values in hotels. Doestoevsky was lovely. I hope to go back soon, I found St. Petersburg so delightful. Go in June, during "White Nights" - the experience is awesome.
