What we liked:
The location is perfect. It's just a couple minutes to the Coliseum & the ruins of Ancient Rome but the area immediately near the B&B is wonderful. There are several great shops to pick up picnic supplies and stock up the refrigerator in our room. The main street is full of tourist restaurants but Melissa & Francoise told us about some great restaurants on the side streets that had superb food at good prices.
The owners really make this place special. They notice the small things, such as we had bought wine so they put wine glasses in our room. They took the time to share information on city and this enhanced our stay. They even were able to secure reservations to the Borghese Gallery for the same day!
Rooms were spotless and well decorated. We felt very comfortable returning to "home" after a day out in Rome. The room had lots of electrical outlets to charge our camera, phone, video camera, etc.
Excellent value for the price. Nicolas Inn's rooms are as good if not better than 4-star hotels. The B&B is lacking a huge entrance and lobby of grand hotels but we didn't miss these items. They more than made up for it with the personal service.
What we didn't like:
Nothing. Stay here, you won't regret it.
We could not have asked for a better stay in Rome. The location was brilliant, the weather was brilliant and we rested our heads at Nicolas Inn which was also brilliant!
The restaurant tips were spot on as was the tip to visit the Vatican Museum in the afternoon. We had read about dreadful queues but we walked right in without a wait.
Delightful rooms at the Nicolas Inn. We were most appreciative of the hot showers and comfy beds.
Nicolas Inn MADE our entire trip to Italy a piece of cake. We bombarded them with tons of questions and they made trip planning easy. How long to stay in each city, what cities to visit, discount airlines for traveling within Europe, it's all there. It's like having your own travel agent & conceirge at your disposal.
Oh, in case you're wondering Nicolas Inn itself is fabulous. Big rooms with all the stuff you would expect from a big hotel but without the big hotel price. Great service, great location. What are you waiting for?
We started researching our trip to Rome a year in advance and came across the Nicolas Inn. They were a valuable resource before we even reserved our room. They offered advice on what cities to see, rental cars, trains, reservationsthe kitchen sink! Melissa & Francois are so helpful its like having a friend in Rome.
The location was excellent. We walked everywhere but the Vatican, which is on the other side of the river. The Coliseum is only a couple blocks away and you can see part of the Roman Forum from their door. There is a great little alley across the street that provides a peak of the Coliseum as well. The B&B is in a great neighborhood. It seems a bit touristy until you start exploring the tiny side streets where the locals live. Melissa took us down to the little deli and helped us order sandwiches. We also picked up some amazing olives! There is an internet caf, ATM, grocery store, Laundromat, fruit stand and lots of great restaurants nearby.
As mentioned in other reviews, Nicolas Inn is a B&B so there is not a lot of common area. But the rooms are well appointed and of good size. We thought they were nicely decorated and had plenty of space for storage. There is free wi-fi in the room but we chose to disconnect from the world and leave the laptop at home. The bathrooms are modern and nice. The beds are longer than some we encountered in Italy. A few times my husbands feet hung of the bed. I guess the Italians are not big people! In the heat of June we were especially grateful for the chilly air conditioning. We had a remote that allowed us to control the temperature.
We loved the service provided by Francois & Melissa. Stay here and your trip will run smoothly. There was a train strike that would have complicated our travel plans but Francois helped us find a train that would be running during strike. Their restaurant recommendations are amazing. When you check in they give you a map and quickly mark the sights, restaurants and gelato shops. They really listen to what you want, its not just a speech given to everyone. My husband was interested in finding some great photos of Romes skylines and they marked just the places to go.
The personal touches are what set this place apart. We hope to be back to Rome and we will definitely stay at the Nicolas Inn.
If you are nervous about visiting Rome than this is the place to stay. We got a complete orientation to the city when wer arrived. They gave us a map and pointed out all the sights including the best time to go to avoid crowds. Their restaurant recommendations were amazing. They explained how to use the buses & underground, when to tip and how much and just basic info to get around. The wireless internet connection was definate plus. Thank you!
We chose this place because the owners are and American & Italian couple. They were extremely helpful. They asssisted us in making the most out of our time in Rome.
The location could not have been better. We were right by the Forum and Colisseum. Trevi Fountatin and the Pantheon we only a 15 minute walk away.
We paid for a B&B but got 5-star service!
