Overpriced Buffet!!!
By texasgrl, 4/9/12
My boyfriend and I did not stay at Skyland Resort but stopped in to eat at the Skyland Diner on Easter afternoon. While the view of the Shenandoah Valley was beautiful; the food was, at best, comparable to cafeteria food. They were only serving the buffet that day and we were not impressed at all!! The food was nothing spectacular and neither my boyfriend or I went back for seconds (a rare occasion for my boyfriend!!) On top of that we were even more surprised to find out that the unimpressive buffet cost us $68! I guess we should have enquired earlier! Needless to say we were happy to get out of there and eager to write a review to save you some money!! Pay to enter the park and enjoy the drive...but just drive on past Skyland Resort Diner!!!

Bugs in the bed and Septic Tank Smell.
Disliked - everything. The rooms were not cleaned and we went into two different ones. It was as if they hadn't been touched since last year. The shower had hair and thick dirt all over it. The second room and at least 3 black spiders under the sheets of the bed. The lodge smelled like human feces. I think they flushed the septic tank but this is something that should have been done days before people started to show up. If they were not ready to open for the season they shoudn't have. Horrible place to stay. If you are going to Shenandoah stay at Big Meadows!

Will never go...
By SassyNice, 11/18/09
I believe that their reservation website does not function properly as an attempt to defraud customers. I attempted three times to book a room with this company and kept getting error messages. I never received a confirmation nor did I get an email that the reservation was confirmed. My brother-in-law also had the same problem and he called and the staff indicated that even though the site says that rooms are available, they were completely booked and we should try back 72 hours prior to our date of arrival to see if rooms have opened up. We decided not to go. Then I saw the charge on my credit card for the stay. So they got my credit card but couldn't give me a confirmation number and then tell us that their rooms are booked but still charge us? Sounds very fishy to me. I called about getting my money refunded. I was told that I need to speak with someone in accounting which ended up being a dead line - I called back and was referred to the Front Desk that I will get an answer for sure and it ends up being the company's internal voicemail service. I believe that they are fraudulent - so be wary.

The room was dirty but the view is great
By DaleL, 8/29/08
We stayed in a traditional room (king-size bed) in an older building at Skyland Resort. The room was dirty, the carpet was old and stained, the walls were scratched, and paint was peeling from the bathroom walls and from the exterior of the building, but the bed was very nice and comfortable. This room would rent for $39.95 if it was on an interstate highway. The more expensive rooms are probably better because they are in new buildings. The view of Shenandoah Valley is great and there is wildlife everywhere and good hiking trails but this old building should be demolished. The restaurant is good also but expensive. We would stay at Skyland Resort again, but only in one of the new buildings.

beautiful....except for the food
By tigger, 8/25/08
the nature is all so beautiful, i am going back. unfortunately the food was horrible. imagine corn fritters as hard as round and hard as golf balls with 3-4 pieces of corn inside, the rest batter. A pannini was tiny triangles of toast with tastless cheese and tomato. the food is expensive and awful. take your own food..but you can't cook in the rooms, so I'm going to take sandwiches next time

Deer & Skyline
By Albert, 4/19/07
We stayed at the resort the first weekend of the 2006 season. It was lovely! The deer would come up to your balcony window and the views are, of course, beautiful.

Great View
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/5/06
Great for a quiet family get-away up in the mountains. However, single people should bring a friend because it is not a single meeting place. It is a great place to unwind though. We try to get up here at least once a year.

Romance Awaiting!
By KimberlyR, 8/25/06
Great lodge. Very peaceful atmosphere. Deer came right up to the patio. Beatiful views of the town and mountains. Went horseback riding-that was really cool! Really had a good time. Will be going back again.....but I may try camping outside to get the real woodsy feeling. (I'll probably run to the lodge crying though.....I'm afraid of the woods at night.) **bring board games for night times**

I'm trying to go back, but the internet site isn't very easy to use
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/2/05
My wife and I enjoyed it very much. It was great when the deer came right up to the porch. The walk to the restaurant was pleasant and added to the event. The food was good. We have friends in Dry Pond, Virginia and we want to stop at Skyland on the way down. I took a horseback ride and it was fun, but it could have been longer. I particularly like the speed limit on the drive. It is relaxing and beautiful.
