Impressed

I had planned a surprise winter getaway for my husband and sons (age 3 and 6). I had registered for an astronomy event at the Mosquito Hill Nature center just outside of New London. After searching on-line for hotels nearby, I booked a room at the AmericInn, New London. Our family had a wonderful stay!
The price for a standard room (two Queen beds) with TV, refrigerator, and coffee-maker was reasonable. All areas of the hotel were clean. The lobby/eating area is a spacious, friendly, and cozy environment. Guests relaxed by the fireplace. The continental breakfast was tasty. The food area was kept stocked and clean.
The pool was the perfect temperature. It wasn't too hot, but it wasn't a shock to re-enter it after being in the whirlpool. The pool had a basketball hoop and balls to use at one end. Our family also enjoyed playing foosball, pool, and video games in the pool room. We appreciated that the pool hours ended at 10pm for kids, but the pool remained open for adults beyond that.
There was an exercise room, but since we went hiking the next day at Mosquito Hill, we did not use it. Mosquito Hill offers hiking, skiing, snowshoeing, sledding, monthly programs, and a free hands-on museum that covers everything from bugs and critters to birds and fish!
There were only two things that made the visit less than idyllic. The entrance to the hotel is off of a side road and was not clearly marked. It was tricky to navigate on a dark winter night. The hotel also must have been hosting a party. The conference room that was being used for the party was next to the pool room door. The party spilled out into the lobby and the pool room before 10pm. It was not the best exposure for our kids. It was obvious, however, that the party guests were satisfied!
We would recommend this hotel and the Mosquito Hill Nature Center to family and friends!
