Great hotel in a great city!
By Mike Saad, 10/11/06
We were in town for a Texas football weekend, and I enjoyed the mix of football fans and other visitors in the hotel. The Thursday manager's reception was awesome! Free draft beer and snacks, which allowed us to mingle with other hotel patrons. Felt like an upscale downtown hotel for the price of a rurally located property. Good proximity to 6th St. entertainment district, well within walking distance. City bus stops close by. Only negative was the staff's lack of knowledge of the city of Austin. I knew more about the bus schedules, and area attractions than they did just from reading through the visitor's guides prior to my arrival. Would definitely stay here again, though.

Horrible Experience
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/24/06
Despite some good reviews, I find it very hard to recommend this hotel. To begin with the room I reserved, a suite, was not available at check-in. The manager offered no concessions at all. Upon arrival at our the room they gave us we found the bathroom to be very dirty. I ran down to a store on Congress and bought my own cleaner before I would use the bathroom. I would have moved hotels but all of downtown was booked. To add insult to injury, my girlfriend got sick within a couple of hours of eating the free breakfast. On top of this the noise from the band across the street kept us up for what seemed to be half the night. None of this is what I would expect for a $179 a nigh hotel. Totally not worth it! I would recommend something away from any of the downtown clubs and something with much better management. I have stayed here many times in the past and always enjoyed my stay. Lately the rates seem to keep going up and everything else is going downhill.

Overpriced, Bad Customer Service, Noisey
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/23/06
This hotel is way overpriced for the ameneties, with rates often upward of $200. It is nothing more than a moderate La Quinta type hotel that happens to be in downtown. I would expect a Hyatt or something along those lines for the price this hotel charges. Also, if you expect to get any sleep during your trip don't stay at this hotel. A fairly new restuarant/bar has opened less than block away. Since Austin is now non-smoking the band plays rooftop until 2:00 am or so. It was very loud in my room. The manager was not very helpful in our request to be moved as we had an early morning flight. In fact, he was actually quite rude. If you plan on staying out late on 6th street and don't mind paying premium rates for a Holiday Inn experience, then this hotel is for you. Otherwise, I would not recomment it. Stay at the Courtyard a block away that will open in August 2006.

Good Hotel, Very Poor Customer Service
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/22/06
I stay at this hotel several times a year, as do several of my co-workers when visiting our Austin office. During a recent stay I had to stay in a suite since the hotel was full during the week. On this particular trip I brought my wife and daughter and we decided to extend our stay for the weekend. The hotel had lots of rooms available for the weekend on their website, yet the front desk said they were booked. When I confronted the clerk about this fact she then changed her story, but quoted me a much higher rate. I wanted to stay over but didn't want to stay in a suite since standard rooms were now available. The hotel staff and management were not helpful at all. When I quoted the online price the clerk then lowered her price, but still would not help at all in my attempt to avoid packing up and changing rooms. They would rather have the room sit empty over the weekend. I ended up checking out and moving to another hotel. I would not recommend this hotel based on customer service.

Great Value, Great Service
By Patti, 01/05/06
From the moment we arrived (three hours before checkin), the service was just wonderful. The staff found a room for a pair of travel-weary guests, offered assistance in planning a road trip, and kept the coffee pot going to help with the day-after hangovers (its proximity to 6th Street caused more late nights than I'd like to admit). We picked this hotel first because it was the cheapest room in the downtown area. We'll go back because the breakfast bar alone is worth the cost of the room.

Review
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 09/14/05
The hotel room was very nice and quite spacious (we had a king suite). The hotel is perfectly located next to 4th and 5th, and there is a PF Chang's and a Flemings directly across the street. Breakfast was good. Valet was kind of a pain as was checking out in the morning because they were understaffed and it took a while(but that was my only complaint).

I love the Hampton Inn!!!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 03/03/05
Only four short blocks to Sixth Street, two blocks to Congress Avenue, three blocks from IH 35, so basically right downtown. The hotel is only two years old and in great condition. Huge complimentary breakfast for four hours every morning. Monday through Thursday free drinks and snacks for and hour and a half every week. Yes, free. They offered room service from Fleming's Prime Steakhouse and Pf Chang's China Bistro, plus the front desk staff had answers for every possible question, from what to eat, what to see in town, where to go. Incredibly helpful staff, although they were busy throughout the day, they managed to follow up with my requests and continue to be patient and friendly and helpful throughout my stay. I don't plan on staying anywhere else when I'm in Austin.
