Don't waste your money
By ,
I just went to a wedding at this hotel and I having a walking disability and I guess know one else does that visits this so called resort. There's know handicap parking or any other access for handicap people. If your in a wheelchair you better plan on crawling just to get into the front door. This place is still back in the turn of the century and if your handicap don't waste your time.If it wasn't for the wedding I attended I would have turned around and gone home. There rooms aren't worth the money their asking for them. And the people are very unfriendly and the service is a joke.Buyer Beware

Had a great time at the Mountain View Grand
By ,
My family and I purchased a Travelzoo voucher for the Mountain View Grand and the place was awesome! The staff was friendly, courteous, and accommodating and the property was immaculate. The views of the surrounding mountains were postcard material. There was something to do for everyone... The Kid's Adventure Club, an indoor and outdoor pool, a game room and a movie room, the farm for the kids to explore while the adults could golf or spend time in the resort and get a massage, take a whirlpool, or just get pampered. Looking forward to a return trip!

Pros and Cons
By ,
So we went to The Mountain View this summer for a pre-wedding spa getaway for my best friend and I to be pampered and relaxed before her big day. It is only about one hour from the wedding location so we thought we would give it a try. I had made all the arrangements via web and phone months before hoping for all the web-site grandeur to be true. When diving up to the resort you feel like you're in a fairy tale, breathtaking views, beautiful flowers and a red barn in the distance with baby lambs and goats bounding. By the end of the stay the fairy tale had ended and the coach had turned back into a pumpkin! Here is my list of Pros and Cons. Pros: Beautiful View, nice rooms, the animals in the barn gave it a very country pleasant feel, and they seemed very well taken care of. The Women bartender was pleasant and did a great job. Most of the staff was pleasant, and tried there best to find out the answers from others if they did not know themselves. (many seem new to the job) The tower tub soak was awesome, and I would consider going back just for that alone. The view from the tower was amazing! The lady's relaxation room was very nice and the spa was clean and well kept. The room service was prompt and breakfast was warm and fulfilling. The grounds were kept very clean. They have a wind turbine behind the hotel. The EPA certifies the resort as 100% wind-powered. I thought that was cool! The fitness room was accommodating although no classes were posted for any of the time we were there.(they should have at least an am yoga class at a spa, don't you think? Cons: The front desk women at check in was rude and smelled like cigarettes, I do not like that! The concierge was overly nice, to the point of fake, and did not answer my questions at all, which both could have been over looked but the worst con is this: I had a pedicure in the spa, it cost me about $80 b/c I added on french polish, the women who did it had only done a handful of pedicures before me, it was like I payed top dollar for a student to do it, she was the worst, sooo bad, at one point she was asking me what to do next! She put the lotion on with the scrub and let the water out before rinsing the salt scrub off my legs! She also cut herself while filing and dipped her cut hand into my water to rinse her hand!! so gross! We had a cheese and fruit plate sent up to the spa and it was way over priced, I think it was about $30 for some assorted party crackers some cheese and a few red grapes and small slices of strawberries. All in all we had a nice girls getaway in a beautiful location. BUT the place boasts an award winning spa... the staff was not up to par! I think The Mountain View Grand is so close to being great, but they need to amp up the training for the new employees and have A+ staff on the team for the spa, you need award winning staff to have award winning accommodation! The prices are some what high but I would not have felt bad about paying if the services were high quality. The nail tec. should know not to be unprofessional with guests and should have the commonsense to stop, wash her hands, and put on a glove or band aid before continuing!! The lack of training comes from a trickle down from the top. Would I go back to this resort, yes. Would I soak in the tower tub again, yes. Would I get any other spa treatments, no way! Thank you hope you find this helpful :)

Not for guests with mobility constraints.
By ,
Beautiful location and facility with friendly and helpful staff. Very much of a challenge for individuals in wheel chairs due to the lay out. There are no rooms on the ground floor, so anyone requiring a wheel chair must use an extremely small and scary elevator to obtain lobby level. To reach the first floor requires another elevator at the opposite end of the hotel.

great place, but check your bank charges.
By ,
Wonderful place- old world charm; friendly staff; beautiful views, grounds, and facilities. Fun activities for kids: pools, playground, barn, movies, campfire. Clean, neat, and relaxing, with cute nearby towns. Good meals, but the convenience does carry a bit of a premium, like any other hotel. Attentive service. Our overcharges totalled more than our entire stay cost us! don't just read your bill, check with your bank. DAILY! (Or teach them how to use the Fidelio Hotel software.) Just don't wait for an apology. It's owned by Great American Insurance Group. If I go back I will NEVER sign for ANYTHING to my room number again, I'll pay cash, even if it's just for drinks on the front porch ($250.00 for an 18 dollar tab?!?) We loved our stay, but we are STILL waiting to speak with 'accounting' regarding charges that were made the day after we left. At the very least, we have a back-up hotel we can count on. I will say that it will be worth the money, once we get it back. Just maybe not worth the time.

Neat PLace

Our two night stay at the hotel was excellent. Its about a 1 1/2 hour drive up to Whitefield and well worth it. The room (306) was great, with a beautiful view of the mountains.

Good Luck You'll Need It
By ,
A truly grand old hotel that has been "mostly" saved but if they don't get their act together the windows will be boarded up within a decade. Of course, this is an historic hotel so you should take this into account and we did. Food is of average quality at a premium price. The "regular" staff is very friendly, apologetic when things go wrong (they do, frequently), and professional. Rooms are what you might expect but certainly nothing to write home about even on their free postcards, but there are ongoing problems with both heating and hot/cold water as well. I suspect most of the problems are with ownership and management and in the end, it shows.

Not good
By ,
It is really bad, it has regular hotel rooms that over changed and the food needs lots of work to it. It has regular hotel rooms...It looks like they went to big yard sale for the furtune there rooms, with no real thing to come back to. The service is really bad and no,one happy working their either, no, has cpr and first aid trainning if anything happens to you. One very old evleper and nothing going up to the spa either, just very small stairways, with cheap compnets on thems
