We were pleased with the whole hotel. The hottub and sauna was clean looking well stocked with towels. Our room was clean, nicely decorated. The cinnamon rolls for breakfast were yummy. The close location to Monterey is great for vacationing. All the staff we encountered were pleasant and friendly. We plan on staying there again when we visit the Monterey area.
This was also my first time staying at an Holiday Inn Express. The pictures you see of the hotel are true and accurate. Our room was clean and very nicely decorated. The breakfast was great despite not having any cinnamon rolls for the past month. The staff was very helpful and quickly responded to my requests for extra pillows and other stuff.
The only problem I had was the fact that they charged so much for movies and to play the Nintendo 64 games. The movies cost $10 and you could not watch it more than once. The video games was $7 for 60 minutes with one controller. My suggestion, if you want to watch a movie or have kids who want to play video games bring your own. They have the hook up on the tv. Also, call the hotel directly, I was able to get one of the two room suites for less $90 a night. That was a savings of $40 just because I called and talked with the staff.
We stay here often and have found this to be the best for the money in the Monterey area. The staff are friendly and helpful. The hotel and rooms are very clean. All the amenities- refrigerator-coffee pot- hair dryer, are there. We have never experience any problems with any noise. Breakfast served is great, such a variety and is always kept replenished. My husband loves how hot coffee is always available all times of the day and nite. Love the pool and sauna. Very attractive presentation and the fact it is outside/inside.
We requested a quiet room....the room provided faced major car/truck route and was incredibly noisey. We then were offered a room adjoining the ice machine and elevator area. Meanwhile, we heard doors slamming constantly. The conclusion is obvious: we left. No price is worth the noise at this hotel....they did not honor my request (I phoned and also asked at 1 pm..the room wasn't ready, but they said they had a nice quiet room, overlooking a lake). Do yourselves a favor and go somewhere else.
We typically stay at Holiday Inn, and this one is true to the name. Clean rooms, good food for breakfast, and a spacious suite with lots of outlets and wifi that's easy to access. Their main problem is, there is only one staff person on the front desk, so check-in and check-out took a long time.
If you do check in late at night and you are tired, make sure you read the fine prints.
I booked over the phone and when I got there, I found out that they spelled my name and address wrong, did not have the room I asked for when I did the booking available, and added one more day to my stay on their own (I missed this number on the check in sheet and so I had to argue with them over the charges)!!! So, no matter how tired you are, be careful with them.
In addition to this, when I checked in, they charged my credit card $100 without informing me and as I checked out, instead of subtracting the $100 from the total, they charged me for the whole amount! Of course, I did not learn about the charges until I came back home and looked at my bank statement.
So my advice for you is the following:
- Don't stay there until they have staff members that can understand the information you try relay to them (I asked them to correct my name three times before it was fixed at check out!)
- Don't stay there if math and logic are two strong points of yours because they cannot reciprocate and engage in an intelligent discussion (I showed them an airplane ticket for the day I was checking out to convince them that they made a clerical error when it came to the total days of stay but it was as if I were talking to a wall or a dumb automated system!)
- If customer service is a concern of yours, go somewhere else (The manager is more concerned about making money than listening to you and keeping you as a returning customer!)
- If you do end up there, double check every single transaction during your stay and after you go back home (You never know what you will be charged for)
Since new owner ship, this is my 4th time staying here. Very nice hotel during my entire vacation. My room was very large with fridge and microwave, breakfast was just like at home. Staff was very helpful. Very quiet area, away from all that monterey traffic. Nice restaurant close by. My previous trip I had my family with me, and they had given me their 2 room suit which was very very comfortable.Yes I would stay here again.
