Exceptional Service
We took our trip July 2- July 6 2012
-The customer service is truly exceptional. Everyone who works there seems to be genuinely happy to offer assistance. I don't think I heard the word "no" while I was there. Also, I do not speak Spanish, but I had no issues communicating with the workers in all areas of the resort.
-The overall appearance and atmosphere of the grounds of the resort are amazing. Well manicured vegetation and I do not recall seeing a single piece of trash on the ground.
-The food was hit or miss, but that can be expected of any buffet. There were items that were absolutely delicious, but some that were definitely not. The wide variety helped make up for this. The breakfast buffet at the main restaurant was exceptional. Literally everything you could want for breakfast was available, including an omelet station that I took advantage of on a daily basis. As for dinner, we only ate at the Mexican restaurant and it was good, not great. There is a bar/restaurant about 100 yards up the beach from Iberostar, and they had the best seafood I’ve ever eaten. Definitely not what I expected when we were seated. They showed us the daily catch that came off of the boat at 4:30, and it was on our plate at 6:30; can’t get any fresher than that.
-The "wildlife" was unexpected but really cool to see. There are peacocks, iguanas, geckos, and (for some reason) cats roaming all over the place. There is also a flock of flamingos in a pond area and parrots that hang out in the main lobby during the day. The wildlife really added to the atmosphere in an unexpected way.
-The "Star Friends" were great. They organize and run all of the various activities throughout the day, and put on a nightly show in the theater. I really appreciated the nightly entertainment, even if it was a bit campy.
- Some of the reviews mentioned a rocky, beach, but that is not entirely true. The beach is sand, and it’s pretty nice. Plenty of shade and seats available, but lots of open sand as well. There’s even a volleyball court. However, right at the water line is where the rocks and coral begin; and it would be impossible to wade into the water without water shoes or something of that nature. Also, my girlfriend was playing beach soccer and cut her foot on a rock. So the beach is good for walking, but if you’re running or playing any games I’d suggest wearing sandals or shoes.
- There were a lot of children there during our stay. It wasn't necessarily a bad thing, but on more than one occasion all of the seats at the swim up bar were blocked by unattended children who were downing virgin daiquiris. If you'd prefer not to deal with children or listen to them squeal while relaxing by the pool I'd recommend going to an adult-only resort or not going during spring or summer break.
-The beds are hard and lumpy, but mattress toppers are available for free.
-The mini bar is quite small, but contrary to what I was told at check in it was re-stocked daily.
