Comfort Inn New River Oak Hill, Oak Hill

We were rafting with River Expeditions, so this hotel was very close and convenient. The hotel rooms were very small. We had 2 queen beds, but had to take turns walking from one side of room to other side because room was tight. The bathtub drained slow, so showering with water up to ankles and door to hall would not latch consistantly. We reported both problems, but maintenence could not get the door replicate our problem, but each time we returned to our room the door was open / not latched and they did nothing about the bath drain during our stay. The corridor carpets were stained and looked dirty and the window at the end of the hall was filled with webs and dead bugs. It was really gross. We were on the third floor.We could hear people in the hall and next room. On the positive side, the included breakfast did offer variety and hot waffles, which the kids liked. Overall, we would not stay here again. It was a little better than a tent because it did rain outside and we were dry in beds inside. I would rather pay a little more to stay somewhere else. Oh yes! I assume because of the low cost of rooms there were many younger people 18-25, which were loud and obnoxious especially at breakfast.

the hotel was a terrible experience the rooms are large but they are dirty we had cob webs hanging from our light stand and in the corners of the walls the pool was down my children weren't able to swim and they overbooked the rooms though we called and reserved 2 non-smoking rooms they gave us smoking and said they had nothing else there was still ashes in the night stand drawers next to the bible. They also said you are only allowed to have pets under 20lbs and there was a dog in the next room that was the size of a german sheperd. This was our first stay and it will be our last we visit west virginia often to visit family we will be staying at the one we have always stayed in and won't try to find anything cheaper again!

This hotel has a reputation of the housekeepers not changing the sheets and not cleaning the bathrooms!!! These accusations come from reliable sources... employees at the hotel. They say the manager condones it and does nothing about it. As much as this hotel costs a night one expects clean sheets!!! I certianly don't want to sleep in a bed that others have wallowed in. It is absolutely disgusting!!

The front desk took forever to check me in (talking on cell phone). My room smelled of cigarette smoke. When I asked for a new room I was told the hotel is smoke free and all rooms are the same. The walls are paper thin and you can hear TV and conversation from adjoining rooms. Had to go find a remote from front desk, not enough towels in the room. The breakfast bar is full of frozen food you heat up in microwave. Hotel is not very clean. I will not stay here again, room was worth 40 cost me 95.

I just spent two nights at the New River Inn, Sept. 8th & 9th, 2007. I also read the bad reviews that were on here and I must admit I was a bit apprehensive about staying there (a friend had booked the room for me). I even thought to myself after reading those first three that were negative, then the fourth one that was a "glowing review", that maybe a manager got on here and wrote that! (grin) I will have to say though that this was a really nice hotel and I would not hesitate to recommend the New River Inn to anyone and I would definately stay there again, and I think Im kinda picky!!! This hotel was equal to any Holiday Inn Express or Comfort Inn that I have stayed in. The room had a mini frig and microwave and yes it had HBO and free high speed internet! The staff was friendly and helpful as well. The breakfast is from 6:30am to 10am and you can not imagine the choices!!! Fruit, yogurt, bagels, danishes, biscuits & gravy, waffles, cereal (from a dispenser NOT a box), 3 kinds of juices, milk and coffee ( know I have left something out!). This "Continental Breakfast" was better than ANY I have ever seen. Yes, it is true they do not have shampoo or conditioner but bring your own, you would like that better anyway! There are only two things I could possibly say about this hotel that was a negative for me: 1. the walls are very thin and you can hear people walking in the halls and above you and, 2. the hallway smelled like smoke but at least my non-smoking room did not! This is definately worth trying and if you dont like the first night, you can always go to one of the other many hotels in the area. Enjoy!!!

Asked for 2 queens beds, got two tiny doubles for $95. It's next to a poor strip mall. Pool not working. Breakfast ok. No shampoo, laundry bag or anything you'd expect for $95. Only returning if desperate.

The New River Inn was a very nice place to stay. I have seen some of the other reviews this hotel has gotten and I guess some people will never be satified..The breakfast was hot!! Had biscuts & gravy, sausage, eggs, pancakes,Ect. I don't know where the other person who reviewed the hotel stayed but it must not have been there. They offered HBO which was on channel 22 if they looked they would have found it..All & All this hotel was by far one of the best I have stayed in..I will return...And by the way 99% of all hotels main offices are always out of state. I guess the other reviewer was just looking for a discount.
