Excellence Punta Cana, Punta Cana

This Hotel is awful. The location is on a nice, white, sandy beach, but 200 metres down the beach it's littered with debris and rubbish. The hotel is situated on the Atlantic, so the sea is too rough to swim. The staff are surly and the management incompetent and rude to an artform. Complaints are ignored. The poor quality evening food can require a wait of 2 hours for service. Mosquitoes are prevalent and the bars are filled with overweight, tattooed, drinkasmuchasyoucan types. No wonder the place is cheap!

On our first day the electronic door lock failed. It took hours to fix and we could not change for dinner because of the dress code. The front desk was barely apologetic and we had to go up the management chain to even get a proper apology. We were moved to another room and the toilet would not flush properly we had to flush 8-12 times per use. We let our concerns be known and after two days of complaints the manger Nicolas told us to WIPE AND PUT THE USED TOILET PAPER INTO THE WASTE BASKET AND NOT FLUSH IT DOWN THE TOILET. We spent our honeymoon either flushing the toilet multiple times or using the toilet in the lobby. I am not the paranoid type but I am sure that they entered our names in a computer because every time we complained whether it was new person or someone who we saw before they would "check things out" but be really dismissive. I would never go back to the Excellence. It is not worth $200 per night per person to to try and flush my feces down a toilet

The wait staff was excellent and very friendly and helpful. The food was horrible in the three restaurants we ate at..Lobster House, Grill and French Restaurant. The coincegie were not helpful at all and gave miss information..Language might have been an issue..Always had to wait at least 20 minutes if not longer to talk to the coincegie. Elevator might have worked once a day and we were on the second floor..Room service did not prepare our room two nights out of the four..Did not clean our coffee pot..Every morning we had to have a room key reactivated. Could not swim in the ocean for the five days we were there. Beach towels were not easily accessible and you had to claim a beach chair by 7:30 am. If you are at the thearte you have to stay in your seat inorder to save it. We went to dance and left our drinks on the table when we came back our seats were taken drinks gone and we ended up in the back of the thearte.The pool is not easy to get in and out of you have medical limitations unless you sit at the farthest end of the pool from the Cafe Bar..two hour ride from the airport but we went back in hour ..

Let me start by saying that the pools are beautiful, but that was it. To start, the resort is not in Punta Cana, it is an hour away. Be prepared for the drive. The rooms were ok, but the maid service was not up to our standards. The food was ok, but both of us ended up with stomach issues before we left that are continuing right now. The room service was included, but awful! The average time the food took was 1 1/2 hours and then it was cold when we got it! Beds were hard, pillows were flat. And watch out for the patio door sensors. There are exposed wires and for my husband it was a shocking experience, if you know what I mean. My biggest piece of advice is do not pay for the 'excellence club'. This was the biggest waste of money. We were to get VIP service, but instead we lost alot of money because of it. From talking to other guests, they recieved the same services, if not better and had more money in their wallet. This was the honeymoon from hell. You only get one honeymoon and I wish ours was not at Secrets!

Wonderfull relaxing hotel. The level of service was excelant. The food was great. The location was fantastic, away from the hastles of the world. Exclusive enough to not have to wear a stupid wrist band. Only down side was that it was dominated by Americans.

we will never go back to this hotel... 1.they put us in a room next to construction on our honeymoon and it took us over 24 hours to change. 2.our excursions were cancelled twice without notice. 3.my husband and a fellow tourist rescued another tourist from the ocean, we started cpr with no help from the hotel staff. eventually hotel staff arrived with a backboard, but the man was already dead. an ambulance arrived 2 hours later. the hotel pretended nothing happened

To begin, everyone says "It's my pleasure..." and if they finish the sentence it's, "becuase I don't understand what you are saying and I can't really help you." My wife and I have been to Secrets Resorts before and they are nice, but we will never go back to this one. From the Sterno BBQ to the smell of old grease drifting across the pool on one of the 10 floating mats (I counted them), or the sounds of hammers during the renovation while the construction workers stop to stare at you, this place is BAD. You are at the end of the road, really, across from a swamp. I guess if you're drunk you won't notice the 30-40 mosquito bites a night. We upgraded to Club Excellence, their price is negotiatible. They want you to pay $50 a night per person, but they will take $50 a night for both of you. The food is ok. There are NO watersports here, and you should really try the bicycle tour of death with the broken bikes, or try archery with arrows missing their feathers. The sports bar did have Jenga and checkers. The map in the booklet is wrong, you have to rent your own DVD's, but they do provide a 24 hour porn channel free of charge. They ran out of bathrobes for the room and plates on the buffet. In case you didn't feel slighted enough, there are aggresive vendors in the lobby every night. We stayed for 10 days from July 3rd, -13th for our honeymoon, and never again.

Went with my boyfriend for my 30th B-Day November 9th-16th 2007. Road from the Airport was horrible & it took about an hour to get to the resort. They drive really fast! Grounds at the resort were beautiful. Sand was not white & the Ocean was really rough. If you want to kayake they will have to take you to another resort. No surfboards to rent which would of been nice. Just boogie boards and you have a limitation of 1 hour and then you have to pay $10 each additional hour. We had to wait a long time for drinks on the beach even though we were tipping! If you want a beach towel you will have to get up by 7:30AM in order to find a towel. (Which will be no problem because there are roosters that wake you up every morning by 7:00Am!) They will lie to you all day and say 10 more minutes for towels. Our first day we waited 5 hours to find a towel and ended up getting them at the front desk. Room was nice overall, except for the ants on the sink and the dampness in the room even with the air condition on. We never saw any towel art on our bed the entire stay and we tipped the housekeeper! Mosquito's are really bad here and they will bite you even if you have repellant on. The meals were just OK, out favorite was the French & we both disliked the Italian. We ordered room service and 2 out of 4 times they forgot something from our order. We went on the Jeep Excursion in which we asked the host at the hotel for a Jeep to ourselves. He stated that we would have to pay more money, which we said would be fine. He spoke perfect English. We took an almost 2 hour drive to meet up with the Jeeps due to the driver being late to pick us up that morning. Once we arrived they did not have a Jeep for us, so we had to share with another couple that did not speak much English. Out of a 6 to 8 hour day my boyfriend only was able to drive the Jeep for 45 minutes. We did get to see the real life Dominca and it would of been much better if we had our own Jeep. The meal they serve you on the excursion was not very good, so pack a lunch if you choose this excursion. After lunch they will take you horseback riding for ~30 minutes, but they do not have enough horses for everyone so the processes takes about 1 1/2 to 2 hours, so if you decide you do not want to horseback ride you will just wait! You will go through a sugar cane field, tobacco museum, domincan school, dominican house, ranch (where you eat & horseback ride), a beach (Not much to talk about)(vendors trying to sell you stuff). The excursion could of been a half day instead of the entire day. Needless to say we did not try any other excursions since we could not trust the host at the hotel to give us what we wanted. He also talked us out of the excusion where you swim with dolphins because he told us that one of the dolphins bit one of their guests. I doubt that was true now! When we approached him regarding our disappointment he was quick to not speak English very well and said we must of misunderstood him! Overall it was not a great experience & the weather was sunny to about 11:00 every morning & then rained the rest of the day. It rained 2 entire days of our stay. We liked the Michael Jackson show at the hotel, but all of the others we left half way through. I would not recommend this vacation to anyone.

there is not one thing we dislike, hothel amazing, very good food in all the restaurant we ate, the people are very frendily they want you to eat, and drink no matter what. the resort is very big, the beach gourges, the ocean a little to rough ; definatly we go back again!!! to interact once moore with the staff , and fevor people around the place . compliment to all of you , for doing a magnificent job ;!!! hola' omar from the minybar, julito , juan carlos, and grace, from enterteinment . hola' to sonya the little mom to be.. ciao..

My wife and I stayed there for our honeymoon. the ride to and from the resort was crazy! The pool side room was nice and clean which actually was the highlight of our stay. The food was okay..I just expected more for the price of the trip.If you want premium alcohol forget about it! Although we went in Jan the ocean was so rough you couldnt swim but there was a nice spot about a 100 yrds rom the edge of the property. I would not go back.
